Welcome to CD. You sure know how to get off on the right foot making friends. Glad to see we have another hateful die-hard liberal among us.

George Washington violated plenty of laws.

Nah, the general got himself fired for whipping it out, and then stepping all over it. He got honorably discharged...AFTER getting fired. Lt. Choi is in the same boat. He made a stand, good for him. He went up the chain of command and challenged the rules. The chain of command took it under advisement...THEN dropped the hammer. As it is with the military...as it will always be.

Sorry for Lt. Choi, he seemed like a fine officer. However, he gambled. He lost. As in the General's case he still get's to pass go, and collect his $200. Just not in uniform anymore.

As I've said for years...there's no such thing as an atheist in a fox hole, or a homophobia complex when you're taking sniper fire or having to hold the line. You're both targets, and can get just as dead. If you both do your job, you just MAY make it out of there to then be as non-religious or gay or devil worshiper or evangelical. AFTER the bullets stop flying.

No. From what I understand he was an above average officer who was respected from fellow officers and his men. He attended West Point. He IS the long grey line. Became an INFANTRY officer. IS an Iraq War veteran. Was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan...where he would have served in his specialty as an Arabic Language expert.

I have not been in the military, but all 3 of my sons have, and one DIL. We all know there are gays in the military, serving with distinction. But nobody wants anyone flaunting their sexuality in a military setting..straight or otherwise.
The gay guy the OP is talking about has just as much reason to be booted out as the many female soldiers who use their sexuality to get booted out on purpose. My DIL knew MANY female soldiers who got pregnant on purpose just to get out of a war zone. Gays who want to leave only need to flaunt it and out they go.
Seriously, he was a good soldier, but he chose to make a stand and that was his mistake. We all have things we believe are worth fighting for, only he can decide if it was worth it.

This is true. The people who are celebrating his discharge will be looked at with shame a few years from now.
