Communist countries outlaw the ownership of private property and demand all businesses be collectively owned. China hasn't been like that since Mao died in the 70's. State owned industries (mostly old fashioned heavy industries) still make up about 25% of GDP but most land is now in private hands, private business makes up some 75% of GDP, and the government is pushing hard to get rid of or privatize most of the remaining state owned businesses.

So it is clearly not communist. What's more it is one of the least regulated economies on Earth and even the few regulations they do have are usually not enforced. What China does have is a one party state which calls itself communist but which does absolutely nothing communist at all ("It is glorious to get rich" does that sound very communist to you?) and instead they're mostly interested in maintaining authoritarian control and enriching themselves. The people put up with it as long as they maintain stability and keep improving the standard of living for the regular people which has been happening at record rates.

In short, you're completely wrong. Germany is one of the most regulated countries in the world (if you'd EVER been to Germany you would know how ordered, regulated, and regimented Germany is) and if you'd ever walked on a street in China and saw the air pollution or the toxic rivers where nuclear waste just gets dumped in rivers then you'd know China has virtually no regulations. You need to travel more and educate yourself because right now you're spouting nonsense.

Several of my friends and business associates call China the Wild, Wild, East because anything goes. Copy right violations? No problem. Put poison in food? Just don't get caught but know that no government agents are looking either. Fire workers who get injured on the job? Of course, everyone does it. Use thugs to beat up any workers who demand better pay? Yep, they all do that.

See if any of this will fly in your mythical "unregulated" Germany. China allows just about everything and in Germany you typically have to fill out a dozen forms in triplicate before they'll consider your request. This is why I keep saying your average American is very ignorant and has very little idea about how things are done in other countries. What's worse is that not only are they ignorant but they have no desire to cure their ignorance even while they keep spouting off ideological nonsense which runs completely counter to facts and reality. Germany less regulated then China? LOL!

This sounds like the root of the liberal urge to make the U.S. more like Europe. I'm headed more in the direction of China, without the thugs and poison.

I've been to both China and Germany.

Apparently we had completely different experiences. We also define regulation differently.

Thanks for all the childish insults though. Shows just how superior you foreigners are compared to us Americans. Gold Star for you.

Buh-Bye.

But the German economy is pretty darned good.

And yes, I do live in Germany.

So what are you doing on a US board discussing US politics and trying to influence opinion on internal US policies? You don't see us over on the German board complaining about German socialist society and giving our opinion on how US ways are so much better.

We don't care what you think. You worry about good ole Germany, we will worry about our issues. This way, you get to live the way you like, we get to live the way we like.

Sound good?

Must be a deformed Communist country.

You might need to be deformed to understand it.

Maybe that's something like disillusionment.

hmm So you are basing your opinion on what someone else has told you? Have you actually traveled to either Germany or China to do business or try to start one? I have in both countries.

China has a lot more regulations than Germany. Just look at some simple data from the World Bank on the average number of days to start a new business:

Time required to start a business (days) | Data | The World Bank

Germany = 18

China = 37

China takes twice as long as Germany because of their insane central government regulations.

LOL, don't get too excited, Germany is primarily a service economy and is getting it's clock cleaned by cheap Chinese labor.

Economy of Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Germany's industrial sector is facing considerable problems due to competition from cheap labour countries such as China and India. After 1991, the country has lost about 28% its manufacturing jobs. The number of industrial employees in Germany is now lower than it was in West Germany alone before the unificiation. Labour costs in Germany are one of the highest in Europe.[48] The disappearance of industrial jobs has created a lower class of unemployed, uneducated people who have little chance of re-entering the job market. The service sector can absorb some of those who lose their jobs, but not all."
