The good ol' days were when I was a lad with nary a worry in the world riding my bike around the block with the sprinklers sprinkling the summer lawns and my Mom cooking dinner calling me when it was ready and I would say just another round about the block because the sky above blue the night warm the sun asleep.

I don't think kids have that anymore. I think they're forced to grow up too fast. Maybe I'm just a worry wart but cynicism in kids so young doesn't seem right to me. I have a feeling we'll hear about it 20yrs from now.

Like I mentioned earlier, I live in a rather 'touristy' area of Coastal California. Gas prices are always higher than usual here
Oh yeah, that'll do it. But the weather is so nice. My favorite vacation was out to see an old buddy of mine that had moved out to Placentia. We had such a good time, the weather was incredible and we rented, IIRC the first model of the Geo Metro, a step up from a gocart. So the price was not that hard for us. This was sometime in the 1990s. I do remember the gas was significantly higher than back home in Dallas.

You realize that the dropout rate was higher in the 1950s than today (mainly because high school dropouts in the '50s could find plenty of work).
And teenage pregnancy rates in the '50s were higher than today (because pregnancy led inevitably to marriage)

#2, and 6 are just YOUR silly issues. Most of the rest fantasy anyway. Well maybe teachers had more power but that's about it. I wouldn't think good old days would include anything that required blind conformity, but I if that's what you like so be it.
These wistfull "I wish I could go back" statements are crazy, people don't realize how many things they have now that they take for granted. Going back more than a couple decades from any time would be a serious jolt.

Would like to amend 6 to add: an opportunity for retailers to profit, and they even waited until Halloween to sell Christmas, er, Holiday, merchandise.
And to 7: It wasn't considered patriotic to live beyond your means.
