Interesting first post.
Tell me, new poster, what part of Amtrak is marketing to the gay community do you not understand?
I know that no GLBT can be in public and remained clothed - they must fornicate with every other member of the community just to harass hets.
Please explain what your diatribe about "gay acting out" that is inaccurate btw, has to do with Amtrak soliciting riders.
You post that you're not a homophobe, could have fooled me.
Aging Hippie...I will never rise to the level of nearly 10,000 posts...and I dont think I would assume some sort of senor respectability in that statistic if I were you...but just the same I'll regard you as Sensei and you can regard my as grasshopper....obviously, my post supports the opposition led by the Family Research Council...as far as explaining anything to you personally...put down your huppa and try reading it again...I will go roll one and try to figure out what your post means...can anyone explain the GLBT thing??
I would agree IF we were discussing a private company and private advertising dollars. We are not. No one special interest group should be singled out and advertised to specifically with taxpayer funded public transportation and public advertising dollars. Equality sometimes mean just being average and not being "special". Failure to be treated as "special" and get taxpayer funded special interest advertising based on sexual orientation preference is not discriminatory.
But why not? If it will get people using public transportation and in-turn possible create some jobs what is the big deal. so long as the advertising done tastefully what is the difference? I really don't see an issue with it.
wait...you're not a homophobe? this post wreaks of "I hate the gays" syndrome.
and Pray-tell, where have you seen gays having fornicated in public....oh you must mean the republican senators and anti-gay pastors who get it on with their rent-a-boys in the airports bathrooms.
How do you know I'm not gay...I took a train ride...and witnessed public behavoir that was detremental to those of us who want to be accepted into society...isnt that the 'gold ring"??
Now...this gets interesting...do the republican senators that you mention disgust you??? Is there an association there...what is your associations with democratic gays??? Thank god, (just an expression) I'm a liberal gay.
Lets skip about a few hundred posts and get to the logical conclusion of this thread...with only a very few exceptions...sexuality is a choice...that is, otherwise it is a very crucial tenet that too much is riding on for the gay cummunitiy (spelling intentional)...I dont care how much liberalism you force upon society by political means...you will never gain acceptance...only tolerance at best....and lmkcin, I already have your number...your trying to be the smartest person on this blog
chielgirl, be honest: You would not tolerate "equal rights" of public tax dollars being used to target members the "moral majority" or the Catholic bishops and nuns only to ride Amtrak would you?
If Amtrak's marketing people figured out that bishops and nuns were a good advertising demographic then sure, why not?
Their advertisers have a job of attempting to spend money to attract profitable riders. Whether that would be bishops, nuns, mormons, gays, or single professional women between 40-50 who have traveled on the East Coast more than twice in the last year and spend at least $250/month at restaurants, that's who it is wisest to target in advertising.
The rel question is doesn't the gay community have something better to do than push their homosexual agenda into everything?
I am with the Family Reserch Council and will contact Amtrack. What the h*ll does someone's sexual preferance have to do with trains?
You will have a few other companies to contact too. Have fun!

"Most all of the major airlines, hotels and others in the travel and tourism industry target the LGBT market segment … Amtrak ’s goal is to raise the level of awareness of the benefits of train travel and increase consideration and ridership amongst this segment," said Abubaker.
True that. Travel companies from Expedia to Travelocity to Jet Blue to American Airlines to Sweet Cruises and more all try and nab themselves a slice of the LGBT travel market. Why shouldn't Amtrak?
Subaru of America and Anheuser-Busch are but two examples of companies that have sought to expand their market reach to the diverse and expansive US gay community. And with their successes, it's apparent that so many other companies are joining in the outreach to the US LGBT community, which outreach Subaru and Bud Light began doing well over a decade ago. Some examples of companies today that are reaching out to the LGBT community include Target, Paris Casino in Las Vegas, American Airlines, Wells Fargo, Delta Airlines, Svedka Vodka, Macy's, HSBC and Progressive Insurance among many more. Even Kellogg's Corn Flakes cereal recently placed an ad in the popular LGBT magazine The Advocate, which featured a Corn Flakes cereal box that was placed as the focal point of the ad, with the list of ingredients highlighted by a spotlight and the words, "The key ingredient is diversity."

Like the rest of us....? HA.
In that particular corridor which is densely populated, trains work well. From Atlanta to NYC not so well. Trip takes 18 hours and 10 mins- and that is assuming the thing will be on time and the trip cost more than a plane ticket which is a 2 hour flight.

The Family Research Council has their work cut out for them. By, by, capitalism. Hello theocracism!
Gays have money to spend and any wise business person would want gays to spend gay dollars with them. Every gay that has a cell phone on our network puts food on my table. I am not about to say we should not try to attract that market. I am glad my company has gay benefits and sponsors gay pride day here.
