Nine pirates in custody. No fatalities.

One thing we can all be happy about.

Agreed. Hopefully this will not be a one time occurance. These pirates have been operating basically without any real fear of reprisal. Perhaps this type of actions will let them know that there are consequences to their actions and these will be enforced.

Just my opinion.

I'm not advocating summary execution here. So no flames are necessary.

But I question if this is truly an effective "deterrent" against piracy, when the pirates are simply detained (at great cost and danger to military troops) and put in jail, where they will receive food, medical care, and comforts they never had in their typical workaday (pirating) life, whilst they await trial.

Upon being convicted, they will just continue to get the life of (relative) luxury they had by getting caught.

Just another situation where one has to ponder whom the real winners and losers are...............

YC.......

The prates went after a ship carrying steel chains? Is that even profitable pirate booty out there? Wouldn't that be like invading the US just to steal copper wiring, manhole covers and catalytic converters?
