Those who are financially stable should feel compassion for those who are not. This goes far beyond paying the required taxes to supplement those in need...
All advanced "civilized" societies should be designed to assure that all of its citizens are provided with the necessities of life.
IMO
Our country should provide all its youth with an Associate's degree upon graduating high school, NOT a H.S. diploma, which is absolutely meaningless anymore.
The first four years of college should be free for every American. Student loans should only be available to post graduates.
Universal healthcare should already be in place...
Unless serving in the military, everyone should either have a job or be registered to work for the government in some capacity related to either their Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
Once registered, they'd be assigned government work at the federal, state, city, or county level. They will be financially compensated for their governmental work. Therefore, no welfare and no homelessness!
Government work will always be avilable until private and more lucrative employment is found.
Of course, our collective tax contributions would have to provide these social amenities...
In due time the rich-poor gap will drastically decrease for fewer people to envy others...

This would just reduce the value of every degree. An associates would be treated like a high school diploma by employers, a bachelor's like a master's, etc.
Not to mention how blatantly authoritarian the whole plan sounds.
The only welfare program I really support beyond what exists now is universal healthcare.
I have no problem with the rich people who earned their money, good for them.
Only thing that's annoying are trust fund babies, aka sperm lottery winners, never worked one day in their lives and will never have to. See Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.

How so?
An Associate's degree would guarantee you an employable skill. That's the entire point of an Associate's degree. Its possession sets you miles above an ordinary H.S. diploma, which guarantees you nothing, but perhaps that you're potentially literate.
A plethora of Bachelor's degrees within our country would mean that we would become a highly educated and thus, a quite knowledgeable society with greater potential for both future scientific and social development.
Employers would have a much more sophisticated pool of candidates from which to select. Greater emphasis of qualification could be placed upon other aspects of personal character, besides one's level of education.
If that's what you mean by reduction of the value of a degree, then that quite possibly might very well be a good thing!
Also, since the cost of education will be drastically reduced and practically the entire population will become members of the workforce, advanced degrees will also become much more prevalent.
BTW
If by "authoritarian", you mean everyone being forced to register for governmental employment. Well registration will only be required of those who can't afford to wait while seeking employment from a private employer. That unfortunately, would be the majority of graduates.
If you come from a rich family and you don't have to work, then as long as your individual taxes are paid, you can continue to live life carefree!

Society should only be concerned about all its citizens "welfare", and NOT solely healthcare....

As long as their individual taxes are paid, who cares?
Bagging on the rich as being evil and corrupt, is a great scapegoat for the "poor".
In their mind it absolves them of their failure to succeed. You know, they'd be rich too, but they have morals (all the while taking from the rich in the form of welfare). I guess vilifying the well to do also helps ease their guilt.
Meanwhile these ungrateful tw@ts ignore the fact the the top 20% pay 80% of the taxes.
Some are so despicable, they want to steal from the rich mans children via inheritance and death taxes.
Where's the thanks? Where's the humility? We need to go back to private charity and the "poor" need to tighten their belt and give up the free soda and learn some gratitude and manners.
And yet your still rich..

What do you suggest? That they lay down in a gutter and die for your convenience?
And relying on private charities is a recipe for a permanent Dickensian existence for large swaths of the population.
Either loosen NIMBYist regulations so that people aren't completely locked out being self-sufficient, or be willing to contribute to help those in need with the basics.
I think that is what Colorado^ is in fact suggesting, those who can't make it should just die, Social Darwinism at it's finest😒

I suggest you take responsibility for yourself.
If you can't figure it out, then that's your problem right there.

IIRC ~80% of people with our net worth don't consider themselves rich. Funny how that works, when you're forced to redistribute 1/2 your wealth to a bunch of ungrateful tw@ts.

Where did I say that? Please quote me.
I have no problem feeding the "poor" beans and rice. We need to bring back the poor houses to cut housing costs. Private charity can take care of the rest.
But instead the "poor" in America are the envy of the poor world wide. They have enough money to buy soda FFS. I don't even drink that poison, but for "poor" people it's their #1 SNAP purchase.
America is a Capitalist system of government, not a socialist one.
This trend of making your life better with other peoples money need to stop. Thank god we elected a real American as president, not some thieving socialist bastard.
