The Los Angeles Times and University of Southern California are probably the best in analyzing California thinking and political trends. Their polling during the election turned out to be the most accurate; on election night the LA Times waited politely for 10 minutes after the polls closed to call the election in favor of the Democratic party and they were correct on every race. So, now this latest poll must be extremely bad news for California Republicans.
"California voters surveyed in the poll repudiated the Republican party's stance on illegal immigration by endorsing a host of positions intended to make it easier for the undocumented to gain legal status. Their support for same-sex marriage outnumbered that opposing any legal recognition by more than 3 to 1. Californians also endorsed an assertive role for government in protecting minority citizens, regulating corporations and helping the poor and needy, and rejected arguments that an activist role for government had harmed the fiber of American society".
Of interest is the number of voters who said that they would NEVER vote for a Republican [20%] and how overwhelmingly liberal those 30 years old or younger, Latinos, women. Also support for President Obama at 64% is one of the highest in the nation.

Most of the fortune 500 CEOs are from the midwest, despite thier smaller population base.

A quick check of unemployment stats will show the western midwest and near west to have the lowest unemployment in the US and job opportunities. However, please stay on the coasts- it is where you belong.

As of 2005 California only received 78 cents on the Dollar for their taxes sent in to the Fed.
