America has been gone for years. This is a materialistic, cold society full of idiots and cold hearted people. While I agree that 99 weeks is too long for unemployment, it shows the idiocy and cold heartedness when you see comments like I'm seeing in this thread.

I know several of them are trolling for a reaction because they have no lives, but some of the others really do mean it. To them I say, wait until it happens to you, and we'll see how much talking you do.

Well, I wasn't going to revisit this thread again, but wanted to see what kind of comments would be made. Predictably, the haters were vocal but I am happy to see some compassionate people too. The haters will be haters always, but they'll possibly be a different kind of hater when this affects them.

I would think this group of haters would be the most likely to turn their guns against others, while the compassionate people either find a way to protect themselves, help others and/or flee.

As to the trolling, I don't understand what pleasure is to be derived from causing such problems, which isn't to say I disagree with you.

If you ask me, we lost a very decent human being (and I refer to Mark) and I wish the haters would have taken his place.

I don't think this is a bad idea. For those who truly refuse to work, I agree.

However, this isn't the case with the 99ers, or at least I've never met one who prefers living on something that most people could not even pay the rent with.

However, what I would really like to see happen is to force these companies to bring our jobs back so that people CAN work again and at a livable wage.

What some people don't understand (and I imagine some in this thread would be in this category) is that people of a certain age (and others but to a lesser extent) are the people killing themselves. If anyone took the time to actually read that letter, you would have noted this guy was to be homeless in the winter as a diabetic which would have meant amputations. Tell me, haters in this thread, what would you do under those circumstances. And don't tell me it never could happen to you. There but for the grace of God go YOU!

I am disgusted by the attitudes I read on here, ppl who think suicide is only for the crazies who probably should take themselves out. That post/letter from that man, Mark, didn't sound crazy, just desperate.

It's true, most Americans DO hate the poor. We are the most selfish, self-absorbed country. Who cares, if it's not effecting me, right? Karma is a beech!

Btw, if the middle class does keep getting squeezed so eventually all we have is a fuedal society- I would expect ppl to arm themselves and take to the streets. Remember the French Revolution? Remember, history has been known to repeat itself.
Well, it didn't get much attention, but I did post a thread on the 80 year cycle that has been going on since the 1500s at least. Every 80 or so years the people do take it to the streets. We're about due for that to happen any time soon. If interested, google on 80 year cycle Thom Hartmann.

Far as I know and last time I checked, there were plenty of people with jobs in both Sweden and Norway.

A tragic Thanksgiving letter from one valiant 99er who gives up hope - Rochester Unemployment | Examiner.com

I am just so incredibly sad and ANGRY with anyone who would say these poor people don't need help. ********** country and ********** government and screw capitalism!
People who commit suicide are cowards to scared to live. The rest of the us in the living gene pool do not need to make martyrs out of them.

This person had a lot more personal issues than his 99 weeks running out.

A tragic story for sure but you didn't pick the best example to start getting outraged over and going off on others who don't share your passion for this individual's unemployment plight.

It's time to put Americans and LEGAL residents first.
Good points given the realities of our current economy. We need to look out for our own.

What say you, mistygrl092?

If the US has so much suicide because people aren't nice, what must it be like in all of the countries like France, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, etc. with higher suicide rates? The people in those countries must really be meanies.

The US ranks 30th.
