People that utilize terms such as that are automatically dismissed by me because they obviously have no clue about the topic.

A clip is a method of a brass strip and a leaf spring that will hold a given amount of bullets in cases called shells. In the the type of rifle usually that use this method, the bolt is lifted and pulled back. Then the clip with the shells is entered into a well, sometimes called magazine, and the shells are pressed down into the well. Some rifles will pop the stripped clip out and others won't.
A semi auto loading hand gun, refered to as a pistol, most often uses a magazine. The shells are pressed into the magazine one at a time and then the magazine is either placed into the pistol, or in a belt holder. A belt holder is used to carry 2 magazines usually. A belt holder will resemble a belt pouch use to hold a cell phone or flash light.
Many people have a problem with calling things for guns by incorrect names. A clip looks nothing like a magazine either. The magazine encloses the shells, but may have smaller circular opening to assist in the amount contained inside a magazine.
Media often refers to words like banana clip when a magazine is curved such as the rifle Ak-47 has.
Another difference is a clip has the leaf spring to hold the shells to the brass rails only, where the magazine has a spring to push the shells up and feed them into the action.
The useage in terms has become a problem in part because medai who are so dooming about everything in the past 50 years have not learned any of the common language for guns and so make up their own language for guns, leaving is to deal with silly terms like Saturday Night Special, which no one can buy, Assualt Rifle which should mean fully autoloading and capable of firing ALL the shells with a single and steady pull of the trigger one time, and holding it pulled, which no semi auto loading rifle can do.
A semi auto loading hand gun or rifle must have the trigger pulled one time for ever round it fires.
Also the media will name a hunting rifle with a optic scope mounted on it a Sniper Rifle. That can be any long gun with a scope mounted. Total non-sence.
Medai will claim common man can not own a full auto anything, which is also non-sence. In many states anyone who can pay and can pass a back ground check can buy and own a machine gun, and as well for the same criteria may buy and own a silencer sound repressor all legally.
Media will often remark that the 2nd Right means we can have rockets, bombs, tanks, and artillery, but there Medai is again wrong. The 2nd says arms which means fire arms which means hand held, and is not rockets mortars, and other devices. Arms is a hand gun, a rifle, or shotgun.
Media has a problem with guns that use black powder as well, which are generally cap locks, flintlocks and match locks. These weapons are well out of date and are no longer in use in any Army anywhere on Earth, but media has no clue.
Media acts as if the Police know something about guns, and in a very loose and ingeneral way some police do know about gun, but the average officer is sure to be a very bad shot, use incorrect terms, and won't really know much about a gun, the mechanics or the ballistics of any given make model of most guns.
The simple fact is most police are police for a pay check, and are not hunters or hobby target shooters, Most polic tend to shoot 2 times each year to 'quailify' I am not sure what the term 'quailify' means myself.
I own a good number of prizes I won shooting in team shoots against the police. These shoots tend to be flintlock against modern arms. So far the police have never once won any events I attended. We load the bpack powder guns for the police because they have no idea how. We swap weapons to make things fair, and let the police load for us.
Most of 'us' also own modern weapons, so it isn't like we can't. of course this is all done with a sporting event attitude, and no one (I hope) goes home angery, but I wouldn't know about that, since my teams never loose.
