Last night Obama was talking about our future. Do you REALLY think our future is bright? We suck in math, suck in science, etc. Who do you think will lead this nation into the future? People who spend 14 hours per day updating their Twitter or trying to get laid on Facebook? Hell, we have people so "into" themselves that they are falling into fountains at the mall. Sorry if I am not so optimistic about the future.

It's not going to get any better until WE (Americans) turn things around. We're the only ones that can do it. That means both sides have to put aside their differences and not only cut the fat in the federal budget, but turn around and invest in things like education, research and development, infrastructure and business development to create jobs and make us competitive in a global market.

You're absolutely right about there being no future on the path we're on, but I'm more optimistic about kids. I have 5--all teens and tweens. Kids their age want to go places professionally, and they want to contribute to more than just their own pocketbooks along the way. I think they're up to the challenge of making this country great again, if we just ask it of them--our country has just been sliding along for years--we need to set the example as adults, and do things for the good of everyone, and not just our own party or bank account.

The future is what you make of it. If you decide you suck and don't try to do any better, your future will suck.

But there are always opportunities, even in the worst of circumstances. You can't alter world events, but you can make the most of your situation, whatever it is.

Chin up and all that. The future is not all doom.

I'm pretty encouraged. My oldest kid was accepted to Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Wesley in addition to several other schools including UT. She's a smart cookie, and razor sharp. She's 16. She's paid for most of her first year in her trading accounts alone. I'm pretty sure she's gonna go far.

My younger one's are ahead of the oldest, as it to be expected. I expect them to ALL to go far. I expect them to lead our country sooner rather than later.
