What about the amour piercing bullets and semi automatic weapons? Are they really necessary for home safety?
Necessary depends on the situation. If the assailant is wearing body armor then AP rounds are good. Semi-auto or revolver is a matter of personal preference. I like semi-autos for increased capacity in case I panic and miss in the beginning of the encounter.
True armor piercing rounds like a .50 BMG that will punch a hole through a tank are military only. They are not available to citizens. Body armor piercing bullets (aka cop killers) are a different story. GunCite-Gun Control: "Cop-killer" Bullets

Absolutely. The majority of my collection are semi-auto with the exception of a few revolvers, a couple of breach load shotguns and a lever action rifle. I want as many rounds as I can easily carry. The now infamous 33 round Glock magazine is not very useful outside of target practice. It makes concealed carry impossible.
And no one HAS to be "Chuck Norris". They just have to apply themselves to their own self defense. The problem is that you immediately go to an extreme, when the extreme isn't necessary at all.
I'm going to assume from your other posts that if a car hits you head on you'll karate chop it before it can hurt you?
Uh, no, I'll pay attention and move the hell out of its way.
Try that some time.
