Obama is worse, because he's ruined it for all of the good, qualified African American candidates who run for President in the future. They will have have an awful stigma to overcome. The result of all that media fawning Obamamania has set things back 20 years. I can't see the media flashing the "tingly" card for any deserving African American candidates in future campaigns.

Well I don't know if I agree as hopefully we will judge the man and not the color of his skin.
I know I certainly will not hold it against any future black candidates because of Barack just as I wouldn't hold it against any future whites becuase of Clinton.

Carter was a good president. Very popular over here in Europe. Obama has the ungrateful job of cleaning up after Bush. It's still too early to judge his administration in my opinion.
You'll have to excuse the average American citizen when it comes to Jimmy Carter. You see, if we would have listened to him 30+ years ago (renewable energy/foreign oil dependency) the USA would be a world leader in SMART ENERGY today!
Instead, the USA now has the astute reputation of an animalistic, consumption-driven beast, oblivious to anything/everyone around them.

Let's see....during his four years in the White House, he presided over the worst economic downturn since World War II-gas prices rose I believe 400%, allowed a bunch of thugs to seize our embassy and our citizens, and supported various dictators (Philippine dictator Fernando Marcos).
Also when a president receives a Noble Peace Prize...he is destined to be a bad president.

no we wouldn't. energy efficiency will only be driven by energy prices. fake constraints like carbon taxes, cafe standards, subsidized public transport and the like will not work. you might think they are popular until they are imposed on the people. when that happens and people see their std of living drop they'll vote the govt out.
if however, the govt stops subsidizing energy. if they stop subsidizing energy infrastructure and the people are forced to pay the full cost to maintain and build the roads they drive on, the gas they consume, the oil supply we protect and the electricity we use, alternatives will emerge on their own. i doubt they will look anything like the high speed rail boondoggles this president wants to build, though. honestly it will be the individuals who will drive energy independence by making simple changes in their lives
technology is only quarter of the solution our attitudes are the other 75%. while we only pay a fraction for the energy we use, there is no incentive for our attitudes to change
