Opposed legislation protecting born-alive failed abortions

Obama has consistently refused to support legislation that would define an infant who survives a late-term induced-labor abortion as a human being with the right to live. He insists that no restriction must ever be placed on the right of a mother to decide to abort her child.

On March 30, 2001, Obama was the only Illinois senator who rose to speak against a bill that would have protected babies who survived late term labor-induced abortion. Obama rose to object that if the bill passed, and a nine-month-old fetus survived a late-term labor-induced abortion was deemed to be a person who had a right to live, then the law would "forbid abortions to take place." Obama further explained the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment does not allow somebody to kill a child, so if the law deemed a child who survived a late-term labor-induced abortion had a right to live, "then this would be an anti-abortion statute." This bothers many people, pro life voters talked about it often.
late term abortion are done for severe medical reasons only.
any live baby that "survives" a late term abortion was never a valid baby that had any chance at life.

obama is right in his vote, why would anyone want to 'save" something just so it can suffer and die. the bill was an attempt to break down the laws of choice. passing it could only bring more grief to the families that must endure a late term pregnancy as it is.

abortion will happen no matter what. the who, when and why it happens is the woman's alone. get your nose out of our wombs.

late term abortions is not code for "birthing a term healthy baby"
anything able to survive a medical late term abortion is not going to be viable.

the right to choice isn't a "group" decision. why should any woman have to justify herself to anyone?

the laws we have now in place do a very good job. people trying to restrict abortions will always face pro choice voices.

there is a line in the sand. like my right to bear arms, women are not going to give up their rights.

It's killing a baby or it's not.

Guess what, when a woman is pregnant- it's a Baby!
It's not a baby until it can survive on it's own outside the womb. Before that point, it's a fetus.

And if the fetus is the result of rape or incest? Is a girl/woman supposed to have that baby and love it, when it's very existence will remind her every day of a horrible part of her life?

If you do a search on the stats, a lot of men can't stand the thought of their girl friends or wives having been raped. It's easier for them to believe 'she asked for it' somehow, and they leave her. But she's supposed to keep the same reminder around for the rest of her life?

I am not saying that abortion should be used as a morning-after remedy, nor do I believe in capital punishment, given all the errors that have been made that have come to light in the past decade. But abortion should still be a legal option for a woman.

What makes you think they don't? Am I too assume that all Pro-Death advocates do?

The Republican Party is the pro-life party.

The Republican Party is out in force cutting programs that provide food, housing, education and healthcare for children.

So, it is pretty obvious to everyone that pro-lifers aren't really concerned about what happens to all of those poor, innocent fetuses AFTER they are born.

Who knew that Republicans no longer value the fetus in the womb if that womb is economically disadvantaged? We know now."

I'm talking people, you depend on the government. I'm not surprised.

Every effort pro-lifers make to keep a woman from aborting her baby is an effort they could have been making to help a living child in need.

What? Isn't the Republican Party made up of people? Pro-life people?

What do you mean I depend on the government?

I depend on the government for many things, just as ALL American citizens do...........but I am not on any entltlement program.....nor have I ever been.
