Unbelievable!
A written lie is worse than a spoken one?
Btw- you can tell a cop you are someone you're not with no forgery involved.
But you knew that already. Right?

Why should a lie committed to paper be considered differently than a spoken one?
The first amendment makes no differentiation.

Not if it's undue influence and you are obtaining money, property, or goods.

Undue meaning what, exactly?

Free speech was designed primarily to protect peoples opinions, ideas, and beliefs. People were basically free to speak their minds, and things that might be found inappropriate to some, should still be allowed. Even lies, as long as they did not intend to harm anyone.

I don't believe the forging of an official document could possibly be considered speech at all. That would be like saying that counterfeiting money is speech. Its not.

As for lying and free speech, keep in mind it is illegal to lie under oath in a courtroom, because that lie is with the intent to harm someone.

A real question to me is whether or not a person should be compelled to give the police his/her name. Since you do not have to incriminate yourself under the 5th amendment.

Shouldn't this be a crime?
