Former Virginia senator George Allen, who is trying to get his old job back, has twice asked a black TV reporter what sport position he played.

But reporter/anchor Craig Melvin, who works at the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C., never played a sport.
Va.'s George Allen assumes black reporter played sports - On Politics: Covering the US Congress, Governors, and the 2010 Election - USATODAY.com

This guy should just stay out of politics.

He's positioning himself to try to take back the senate seat he lost to Jim Webb. I doubt Virginians are dumb enough to return him, though.

Seems like an innocent question. Why the drama?

I am a liberal, I read the article somewhere else, and I was shacking my head. So, he confused a reporter with a player. WoW, now that's what I call a problem! lmao. He must be impeached for this! Whatever you say, it's always the wrong thing. Are they implying he "put him down" ? Baseball player is now "putting down"? lol.
I hadn't heard of him before, though, and don't know about other incidents. But, I don't care because it's hardly mentioned anyway.

The thread title is biased. But again, how would this be offensive if he thought most black people are baseball players? Must be logical for those who were born into this twisted kind of thinking. Glad I wasn't.

I will be voting for him. He should have never been run out of the race last time.

Nowhere is the claim "Allen assumes all blacks play sports" substantiated.
But Allen does address the accusation:
Quote:
sorry if I offended, ask people a lot if they played sports Grew up in football family found sports banter good way to connect.
Looks like just another race bait thread with a dishonest lead in.

Your title of the thread is a LIE. George Allen asked if THIS reporter played sports. Nowhere does is imply that Allen assumed that ALL blacks played sports.

Typical liberal resorting to lies to push an issue where none exists just like Nancy and Harry saying that grandma will have to eat cat food if the GOP budget is passed.

that is exactly what I thought too! I don't think he's a blatant racist but just a ignorant jerk! I'm surprised he didn't ask the reporter if he liked to eat fried chicken & watermelon!
