Only 5% of Haitians speak French, and even they speak it as a second language. Creole is the first language of all Haitians.
Quote:
Creole is a derivative of French
Creole is a combination of 17th century French, Spanish, Taino and various West African languages. A Creole speaker cannot understand French, and vice-versa.
Latino, although derived from the word 'Latin' assumes only people who speak Spanish. Italians and French are not Latino.
Likewise, Spanish is a Romance language, but that doesn't make Guatemalans Romans.
Honestly, I find the whole Latino/Latin-America convention somewhat annoying as I studied Latin in college and everyone assumed a gave a crap about Latin-America as a result.
As far as Haitians go, they speak Haitian Creole which is a simplified French grammar with mostly French vocabulary bolstered by a supplemental vocabulary derived from west African languages. Haitian Creole is not a Latin/Romance language and Haitians are certainly not Latino any more than Charlemagne was.
Also, while Haitian Creole (you have to distinguish because the term Creole is generic and creoles exist as adjuncts to many languages) is the main spoken language in Haiti, all education in Haiti is conducted in standard French. While many people do not receive much education in Haiti, most Haitians can get by in standard French and anyone who makes it to the sixth grade in Haiti is fairly fluent.
Because
The British, Indians, & Blacks who fought for Independence and set the American standards for the Flag, Language and map out the borders....Just like The spanish colonies did in their countries
Spanish speakers have been in this country since the 1500s. Spanish is every bit as American as English.
Also, what about all the German, Dutch, Italian and Irish immigrants that came to this country in the 19th century. They didn't "build this country" either . . . why do they get a pass, but not Latino-Americans?

I'm not sure. Why do we have borders? I really think we should open our borders and let anyone come and go as they please. I also think we should let everyone have any entitlements that they qualify for. We are a rich nation and we have so much to offer. We don't have problems with homelessness or poverty like other nations...so we are very selfish if we don't allow everyone to come. It just makes sense.

Entirely not true
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

And you posted this in the other thread too.
So can I take it that you mean to establish some standard of Americanism? To impose some kind of cultural norm on everyone that lives here or wants to? Perhaps through government regulation?
Can you see how such a thing would be directly contrary to the express terms as well as the spirit of the First Amendment?
JC! I have seen Haitians walk up to a French Canadian and start yappin away . Why ? Because they both speak French.

Every Haitian I have ever known speaks French.
