This whole situation makes no sense whatsoever. The victim gets beaten to a pulp and the manager gets a slap on the wrist from the judge. Nice going Memphis. Not!

Memphis, Tn - In February of 2010, a security camera in a North Memphis McDonalds caught a now infamous beat down on tape. The video shows store manager Jackson Martin violently attacking then 17 year old employee Jerelle Gray. Martin was sentenced on Monday to 4 years diversion, meaning the incident will be wiped off his record if he stays out of trouble. He was charged with aggravated assault.
Gray says he wishes Martin would have spent more than 45 days in jail, but respects the decision of the judge.
Gray’s attorney, D’army Bailey, says the fight left his client emotionally scarred, “He continues to have problems of physical and emotional nature he continues to get medical treatment.” Martin’s father was pleased with the court’s decision, “They got it right this time.” Gray’s father, Jerome, says the family has received death threats since the incident and life will not return to normal any time soon. Gray just wants to put the incident behind him, “I wish I could have my life back.”
Just a note to those who believe there will be no adverse affects from deregulating child labor statutes. The underlying issue, according to the report, was the demands of this McDonald's restaurant to extend this teenagers hours of work. The argument being that restricting the hours of work for teenage employees by statute is an unfair burden on employers and employees a like instead of the fact that without such statutes youth workers are at the mercy of their employers.

It was the idiot manager and had nothing to do with the policies of McDonalds or child labor laws.
The kid had already worked his shift out with the night manager and the when the morning manager came it he flipped out.
Child labor laws have nothing to do with this issue.
I think McDonalds can do more for this kid than just wishing him a speedy recovery. Hopefully they do the right thing. again kudos to that boys father. Sounds like a hell of a man.
