First Amendment Trumps Sharia in Dearborn

But the grim, seemingly inexorable, progressive acceptance of Sharia-based mores in the US—despite this totalitarian religio-political “law” being antithetical to American law—was at least temporarily reversed late last week, in of all places, Dearborn, Michigan. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2:1 on Thursday May 26, 2011 (in GEORGE SAIEG, Plaintiff-Appellant, v. CITY OF DEARBORN; RONALD HADDAD, Dearborn Chief of Police ) that Dearborn, and its police department, violated the free-speech rights of a Christian evangelist by barring him from handing out leaflets at an Arab-American street festival last year. The court’s two judge majority opinion concluded,

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is finally recognizing what's happening and did something about it.

Glad there is still some sanity and a willingness to uphold constitutional rights in the Appeals Court. Shame it had to get that far before someone came to their senses.

According to a well known poster, this happens because of drunk judges.

I am aware of this going on truegritt. Read a few articles where Shariah has been used to sway cases one way or another.
It's flying pretty low on the radar screen and not many big MSM outlets have uttered a peep on this.

I'm smiling from ear to ear right now.

This has been long overdue.

I wonder if East Dearbornistan will cancel the Arab Festival in response...

A very good ruling. It was interesting reading the judges' decision. They seem to understand what Islam is very well. Perhaps the plaintif's lawyer did a good job in educating them. I would like to read the decneting judge's opinion and how he/she wasn't able to reach the same conclusion.

The ruling said almost nothing about Islam. It was the right ruling, imo, but if you think it represents some political sort of anti-Islamic thrust you evidently read more into long-winded passages about "sidewalk egress" and the like than most of us would.

So it said "almost nothing" about Islam....Does that mean "nothing" was said about Islam? Man, the lengths people will go to try and provide some sort of protection for their agenda is astounding.
