"Teachers unions have historically been formed to protect the rights of faculty members through collective bargaining. So, why would the California Faculty Association, a union from the largest state university system in the country go out of its way to issue an resolution that is decidedly anti-Israel? Additionally, why is a teachers union even spending time discussing, debating and passing a resolution about Israel and the Palestinians?"
"This teacher exploits the lack of knowledge of students about what is going on in the middle east. If you openly oppose her, she will tell you that you are wrong because there is no proof. If you openly oppose her with proof and make her look bad she will grade you down, and with each point counting as a percent of your grade it sucks. She gives all the facts in her readings, for example: Zionists did act x, Palestinians retaliated with act y, but will only lecture on how bad Israel is and nothing about act y. If you take her just show up, and be quiet and you will be fine."
Is this really what we want for our youth? "...be quiet and you will be fine."
Sounds like Fascism to me. The whole thing sounds like nothing but indoctrination and a front for this professor to push her own political agenda. I'm sure this is not an isolated case.
Oh, and btw, here's another tidbit from the article:
"It might be of interest to know that the CFA is also connected to SEIU, the large and powerful union that President Obama told, ‘SEIU’s agenda is MY agenda.‘ Let’s not forget that SEIU reportedly spent $60 million dollars to get Barack Obama elected in 2008"
Don't like the class? Don't take the course. Seems pretty simple and straight forward free market/democracy right there. Plain and simple.
Another mountain out of thin air....by the Blaze & others who also have an agenda.
Ummm. Not just "a class." This is the anti-Israeli political stance of a Union from the largest State University System in the country.
"... opening paragraph of the CALIFORNIA Faculty Association says almost nothing about education, instead it focuses on ‘GLOBAL ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL JUSTICE.’ "

Labor Unions in the US, and the world over, have a long, proud history of making common cause with others who are struggling for justice. If this really comes as a surprise to you, you need do some reading.

Anybody surprised?
The resolutions begins with
Quote:
Whereas, violence against civilians - whether in Palestine or Israel-- does not and will not serve the interest of peace and greater humanity in the region; and
Whereas, neither the Israeli military nor Hamas is justified in attacking the civilian population of the other; http://www.calfac.org/sites/main/fil...nce_020709.pdf
and continues in this vein. I see nothing "anti-Israel" in the resolution.
Perhaps The Blaze

is, in its own inimitable way, making another mountain out of a mere molehill?
Btw, it's not the Palis who are struggling for justice, it's the Israelis who are struggling for the most basic kind of justice - the right to stay alive. But thanks to leftist propaganda, funded by oil sheiks, up is down, black is white, night is day, etc. A total perversion of reality.

Well, not everyone in this mandatory Union is "proud" to be supporting this anti-semitic resolution. In fact, many members feel "duped" into it and are seeking legal counsel. Perhaps, YOU need to do some reading. Here, you can start with this additional link:
"Had CFA members been aware of Foroohar’s extremist background, it’s a safe assumption they would have been hesitant to endorse the 2009 resolution. That a radical academic such as Foroohar was able to impose her anti-Israel positions on a union representing 23,000 faculty, counselors, librarians, and coaches on twenty-three campuses speaks volumes about the ability of a fanatical few to advance a deceptive, and often false, narrative on the Arab-Israeli conflict."
"In addition, several CFA members have consulted an attorney about the unelected members of the Committee authoring politicized resolutions against the wishes of the membership-at-large. Meanwhile, the second largest academic union in the U.S. may soon begin promoting boycotting and divesting from the Jewish state."
n 2009 the union adopted a resolution in 2009 titled, “CFA Call for a Halt to Violence Against All Civilians in Palestine and Israel.” The resolution is so patently Anti-Israel, that Leila Beckwith, a former UCLA professor, wrote the following in early 2010 for the American Thinker;
American Thinker:
There is no limit to the topics appearing on American Thinker. National security in all its dimensions -- strategic, economic, diplomatic, and military -- is emphasized. The right to exist and the survival of the State of Israel are of great importance to us. Business, science, technology, medicine, management, and economics in their practical and ethical dimensions are also emphasized, as is the state of American culture. About Us - American Thinker An admittedly pro-Israel publication
The resolution that is supposedly anti-Israel:
Resolution

Adopted by the CFA Board of Directors, February 7, 2009
Whereas, violence against civilians - whether in Palestine or Israel-- does not and will not serve the interest of peace and greater humanity in the region; and

"The resolution states seven propositions that form the basis for the actions recommended. The propositions include affirming a moral equivalence between Israel defending its citizens from missile attacks and Hamas firing missiles against Israeli civilians, a misstatement of the conditions in Gaza, an omission of the U.N. Security Council's condemnation of acts of terrorism, and a false charge against the U.S. of not seeking a just peace agreement."
"The recommended actions are that the humanitarian and economic needs of the people of Gaza be addressed (ignoring the needs of the people of Israel) and requests that the U.S. initiate a new policy that addresses the needs of Palestinians, implying that the existing policy ignores Palestinians."
