"Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint told FoxNews.com that the two-day lesson plan for all 350 students at the school was intended to emphasize that not all children will conform to gender norms."
"The lessons were presented by an outside anti-bullying educational group called Gender Spectrum, paid for with a $1,500 grant from the California Teachers Union."
"Fox News was allowed to sit in on the lessons, which included teachings to kindergartners and fourth-graders."
Apparently, there is a bill to make this mandatory in all K-12 grades in California. And since there is a push to make the anti-bullying programs mandatory at all schools in the U.S., people should be aware of what this "anti-bullying" program is really all about and to be on the lookout for it at your own school in the near future no matter what state you live in. (That is a consequence of a Federal Curriculum.)
I think this two day program for kids as young as five years old is not only a terrible waste of money and time that the kids could be spending on actual academics but has the potential to be very confusing and damaging to vulnerable young minds. The public schools need to stop with these social experimentation programs with our children and get back to teaching academics.
Tell kids to treat everyone with respect. Period. Quit trying to change their values. Stop trying to teach them about every single variation and forcing them to acknowledge that its all "normal." The schools have every right to expect certain behaviors of students. They do not have the right to try and change the way children think or what they value.
"A gender expert and trainer was brought in to speak to the children:"
“[There's] a lot of variation in nature. Evolution comes up with some pretty funny ways for animals to reproduce. It turns out that there are not just two options.â€
"The trainer also told the children that this diversity applies to human beings as well. It is this rationale — that gender is pliable and that there are “more than two options†— that has some people frustrated."
"A gender expert and trainer???"
Geeeeez. What ever happened to "math teachers" and "librarians?" Oh, right I guess they had to be laid off due to the budget problems.
Also note parents were told in advance and parents who objected were allowed to keep their kids home or out of class.
NOT TRUE. It is MANDATORY.
"Parents were advised of the lesson plan weeks ago, but the curriculum was not something their children could opt out of as they can with sex and AIDS education, district officials said."

The issue with this is your discomfort with variations in gender identity, not the budget.
BS the issue here is it's none of the schools buisness to bestow their beliefs on children, They need to be teaching the basics. This junk is a waste of time and money if ya have forgotten what you are look between you're legs the rest is all in you're confused mind.
While I disagree with these programs designed to teach my child what the school district thinks is "normal", I go ahead and let them attend. And then once it is all over, I sit down with my child and discuss what was taught in the special session and correct any misinformation that was given to them. Has worked so far without any trouble, just remember to take a deep breath every time you hear the stupidity that is being given to your child as truth.
