For what it's worth, in the recent Miss USA pageant — in which competitors were asked, "Should evolution be taught in schools?” — Miss New Hampshire endorsed teaching evolution but added, "it shouldn't be the only point of view taught." For a discussion of the range of answers, see the report on USA Today's Faith & Reason blog (June 20, 2011).
This is why we've stated that this particular pageant winner is smarter than most. Most probably don't know what evolution is. You're making our point. I know you're fighting a losing battle but try and keep up.

To all these people who claim Creationism is a theory that should be taught in public schools (rolls eyes), which religions creationism are we talking about?

If we cover the Christians version of Creationism, then we must also cover the versions of:

Islam

Wicca

Judaism

Hinduism

Sikhism

Buddhism

Jainism

Shintoism

Confucianism

Vodun

Druidism

Caodaim

ETC ETC ETC AND MORE RELIGIONS

As you see, the list goes on. Why discriminate? Why only teach Christianities theory?

Evolution should be taught as it is SCIENCE. Religious theories can be taught in religious classrooms. Creationism is NOT a science!

Because Christianity is the only true scripture.

We stand at a crossroads where we can make a choice. Make the right one.

YouTube - ‪"West Wing" - Biblical Quotes‬‏

Several books referenced in the Bible, aren't in the Bible. Isn't that odd.

Here's the list.

That would actually be a good idea.

Then students could make observations and see which model fits the observations.

Until then students absolutely have to rely on 'belief'. Belief that the heliocentric model is correct or belief that the geocentric model is correct. Once the observations are made, no belief is required.

Simply teaching facts and having students take them as 'gospel' is why we have umpteen threads like this.

Why is one authority 'a science teacher' more trustworthy than another 'a preacher'?

People need to be taught how to observe the world around them and draw their own conclusions. Once that happens this religious nonsense will begin to go away as there is no observable evidence to support those theories.

Only a conservative would assume that only rocket scientists understand evolution.

For the rest of the population this explanation will suffice

I believe creationism should be taught in public schools.

I also believe alchemy should be taught in public schools.

Astrology should be taught in public schools.

And what about Phrenology? ... That should be taught in public schools.

If Paranormal Science isn't taught in public schools, how can our children train for a rewarding career in Ghost-Busting???!!!!!

Actually, pretty much all rocket scientists, and everyone else with a logical mind or a rational education, believe in evolution. I find it hard to believe ANY modern educated person could still think a benign deity is running this world, when the world proves the exact opposite every day.

It's good to see a representative of the younger generation not falling to the anti-intellectual religious cultists who think any minute a supernatural chariot will appear in the sky and solve their problems. Unfortunately, there seems to be an actual majority of the American population believing in supernatural fantasy, and this does not bode well for our future as a nation. No wonder the media and government find it so easy to manipulate the masses.

As Einstein said, There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe...
