What is the purpose of laws that protect you from yourself?
What is that all about.
Pre-canned Answer 1: Why the purpose of those laws to protect you from yourself, is to protect you from yourself. It's self evident. No circularity in reasoning there whatsoever. Oh, and those [other] various things you want to do are likely a sin, so... we won't be having that.
Pre-canned Answer 2: The Bible says that your life is in Gods hands. You don't get to make certain decisions about your life, he makes it for you, and when God says it is your time to go, then he will let you go. Oh and please don't ask me why people can go to medical doctors to seek treatment, even though that very act is interfering with it being "your time to go." We'll just sweep that one under the rug for now. Nothing to see here, move along.
Pre-canned Answer 3: You aren't allowed to eat what you want because I say so and I can get together a mob of savages big enough which can pretty well prevent you from doing that.
