You can increase your debt ceiling, if, revenues are increasing. Thats the difference then, and now. Revenues CLEARLY are not increasing..

Alas that is not the case. Pelosi has made it clear she will not allow cuts to either program.

This would not be a good option to pursue. The political fallout would be great and court battle would likely follow, which would be even more divisive...not to mention the fact that Supreme COurt is conservative.

The problem is that revenue is so far off from projections that, were you to cut the difference, there would be nothing to spend on the government at all. There's isn't enough income to reduce the debt in real terms right now even if we wanted to.

what do normal every day people do when they are not making enough money to what they are spending. normal people would cut from their budgets all non essentials. cut credit cards, and and what ever they do. they do not borrow any more money because they will just dig a bigger hole!!!! why should the government borrow any money before looking at what they can cut out of the budget!! this is not economics its common sense wish Obama had some of that!

Why shouldn't it be an option? If Democrats gave up pursuing the tax increases, both parties could agree to raise the debt ceiling.

And if the Republicans would actually give ground on something, then we could get somewhere. And the cycle continues with no end in sight...
