Can't progress when all you do is switch the roles between various groups. The oppressed become the oppressor and our society has only encouraged such.

Isn't it ironic that you only hear stories like this that happened in Southern States, but you never hear of the many incidents of the same that happen all of the time in northern states.- Ignorance will always prevail. Sad

BTW I hear of racists stories out of the North, so why do you consider racism a "Southern thing?" Do you just ignore Northern Racism???

Do you think if someone had a call name of "whiteandproud" they would be called racist? Just a thought to ponder.

So, you take a second hand account from 30 years ago to conclude that we've made no progress.

I think he was talking about the people in the historic situation he was teaching about that day, and how they did things to hurt themselves materially at the behest of the Catholic Church. You might actually READ the article, that would be a good place to start.

Probably because the incidents aren't as widespread in the "northern states."

The South has the history of institutional and legal racism, not the north. No matter how you cut it, the South has been historically far more racist.

(sigh) Really, PM? An incident from 30 years ago and "are Southern teachers still racist?" Who is "we" who needs to be so enlightened or tolerant, compared to who? Have you ever been anywhere else, ever left the US, or even your hometown? Yes there is bigotry here but overall Americans these days bend over themselves backwards to be tolerant and understanding and correct.

Today, the intolerance leans towards the lower classes more than anything.

He and others will likely say "no they wouldn't be called racist," but don't be fooled. You can't have any opinion regarding racial issues on this forum that aren't Government Approved Politically Correct without people asking you about "Stormfront."
