my gut feeling is that this is just the tip of the iceberg, but that our media is not going to do its job.

In 2009, department of energy investment had a budget of $500m. By 2013, it will be $9bn.

When Obama first unveiled his recovery plan in February 2009, the heavy focus on green investment in the recovery plan was seen as transformative for the US economy, pouring billions into smart grid, electric cars, wind and solar power, clean coal, and electric cars.

But a $5bn programme to install tighter-fitting doors and windows in homes across the country took more than a year to get going. It also failed to create the promised boom in construction jobs.

A year later, only 32,250 homes had gone through the retrofitting process – only about 5% of the target. Only a fraction of the 87,000 promised jobs materialised. In California, the programme got to just 849 homes in its its first year, creating only 84 jobs.

Even projects that had Obama's personal stamp of approval, such as the conversion of a mobile home factory to one that produced electric delivery vans in Wakarusa, Indiana, were put on hold.

Obama visited the factory, owned by the Navistar trucking company in August 2009, to hand over a cheque for $39m to start production on the vans. The manufacture of new vans was supposed to create 700 new jobs in the area.

"Just a few months ago, folks thought these factories might be closed for good," Obama told factory workers. "But now they're coming back to life."

But the money never materialised. Navistar said it had hired just 10 or 12 workers (end)

where did all the money go?

it is odd that only the british newspapers seem to care about it. it is also easy to see that the few jobs that were created were only temporary.

Indeed dockside---Scott Pelley, the NYT & the Washington Post have given this story plenty of coverage; I have no idea if Brian Williams or Diane Sawyer did as well on their newscasts last night.

They have indeed. Devastating coverage for obama. If they DIDN'T cover it, wouldn't that be more proof of suppressing stories to protect obama?

I wonder who's pulling their strings. A lot of Democrats would like to see Obama step aside, and if he won't do it willingly, they'll have to force his hand.

A $38.6 billion loan guarantee program that the Obama administration promised would create or save 65,000 jobs has created just a few thousand jobs two years after it began, government records show.

The program — designed to jump-start the nation’s clean technology industry by giving energy companies access to low-cost, government-backed loans — has directly created 3,545 new, permanent jobs after giving out almost half the allocated amount, according to Energy Department tallies.

President Obama has made “green jobs†a showcase of his recovery plan, vowing to foster new jobs, new technologies and more competitive American industries. But the loan guarantee program came under scrutiny Wednesday from Republicans and Democrats at a House oversight committee hearing about the collapse of Solyndra, a solar-panel maker whose closure could leave taxpayers on the hook for as much as $527 million.

Once again, the right has this wrong. The DOE loan was started under the Bush administration, who tried to rush it through before he left office. The Obama administration restructured the loan to increase protection for the taxpayer.

Want a timeline, so the right, who are wrong most of the time can get their story straight?

You found a writer that loves to leave out some of the facts as all of you lefties are so want to do .. Huh!?

Bush created the scenario under which such a loan could be made; however, they advised against proceeding with the loan to the company.
Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Solyndra officials were intensely pressuring Bush administration officials in early January 2009 to approve a government loan for the solar company before the Obama administration took power, according to new emails obtained by Fox News on Friday.

On Jan. 12, 2009, Solyndra CEO Chris Gronet sent an Energy Department official an email marked "urgent" expressing outrage that Bush officials had decided a few days earlier that while the loan application had "merit" it needed further study before officials could move forward with a taxpayer-financed loan.

"I was appalled to learn on Friday that our application is being delayed yet again," Gronet wrote to Energy official Steve Isakowitz, writing there had been "countless communications" back and forth suggesting the application would be reviewed Jan. 15.

The Obama administration resurrected the loan and fast-tracked it shortly after inauguration.

Pretty sad that after all this time Obama and his supporters(UR One ) are blaming Bush for all the failures since Obama took office.
