Is it politically correct to pretend not to notice how all of America is dumbing down? It seems that even those who are supposedly "smart" aren't really so smart. Or perhaps they just don't care.
For those that would like to at least seem like they know what they are writing about here's an article from Slate Magazine that lists the most common mistakes made even by those who should know better. They include some of your favorites like "your" and "you're".
It's a bit difficult to take someone seriously when they are rattling off statistics about homosexuals or the economy or writing a 1000 word monologue about the history of WW2 and they CONSISTANTLY make these types of errors.
Everyone makes mistakes. But it is obvious when someone just doesn't know any better.

This is 2011, the modern generation doesn't use the words "you're" -or- your are -or- your

I mourn the loss of good manners more then I do improper English....
But I guess some people need to feel superior to others so they fall back to criticizing other people's use of "proper" English language...
Are you kidding? I think the use of proper English, IS good manners. It's one thing to be able to "tweet" or "txt", and use the proper grammer/language necessary in those formats. It's also understandable to use "slang" when hanging w/ friends or in a certain social setting. However, the use of "proper" English in a formal or public setting is still not only accepted but encouraged.

I'm sure some people from the Victorian Era felt the same way when women got the right to vote and women wore dresses that showed their ankles...
