"In a number of interviews to European news outlets, the former hostages - Belgian teacher Pierre Piccinin and Italian journalist Domenico Quiric - said they overheard an English-language Skype conversation between their captors and other men which suggested it was rebel forces, not the government, that used chemical weapons on Syria’s civilian population in an August 21 attack near Damascus."

Chemical attack was Syria rebel provocation, former hostages say ? RT News

Wouldn't be surprised by it. Assad would have been real stupid to use chemical weapons while actually winning the war.

The UN investigation has confirmed that someone in the Assad Military chain of command ordered the strike. The chemical munitions used were soviet marked and were military grade weapons and not some kitchen table mix cooked up by rebels. I've seen photos of the actual canisters with the Cyrillic markings and the remnants of the military grade rockets at the site of the gassing.
I'm sure Assad was duly horrified when he found out about the attack and had the person who ordered it immediately taken out back and shot in the back of the head. He didn't need this to win the civil war as the rebels were back on their heels and ultimately, it cost him dearly. The soviets stepped in and demanded his weapons be removed for two reasons. Number 1, they are soviet built munitions and number two, the soviets are afraid that some will fall into terrorist's hands and with the chronic Chechnya problem and all that, they can't have all their chemical munitions wandering around the middle east or in the hands of groups who would use them against them. It would be the downfall of Putin if soviet gas munitions were used by terrorists against Russians.

The actual truth pi$$es off the right wing conservative here in America as they desperately hoped the chemicals were of American origin and set off by the rebels so they could attack our president with the issue and perhaps start a drive to impeach, but no such luck for them.

actually UN report proved nothing except what people already knew

someone used the weapons.

UN inspection didn't indicate which side did it.

lots of evidence and suspicion goes to the Al Queda terrorists
OUR GOVERNMENT is providing arms with because.

they were initially losing the war before USA threatened strikes thus
why would anyone use a desperate move like chemical weapons as it makes no sense
unless you are a stupid idiot. Then you would use chemical weapons.

So does anyone think ASSAD is a stupid idiot or a smart fox?
hmm? if he is a fox he didn't do it then.

it would very likely be the terrorist rebels trying to provoke something here then.
many have made this conclusion already.
there were also some data suggesting the launchers of the chemicals to be linked to USA/allies trying to
cause chaos in the region.

So are we going to bomb the Al Queda then? or not?
Now instead we are actively and out right providing even more arms to the terrorists.
GOOD JOB TRAITORS GOOD JOB.

And later on they will be used against US AGAIN!!!

I have no support of this and previous admins in their intervention in the region.
Ron Paul is correct we need to stop this BS and fix our own economy first if anything.
WE CANNOT AFFORD IT GEEZ.

Wow, you need your head examined.

What Syria is actually about: Setting up a Natural gas pipeline managed by the US/Saudis from Qatar, through Saudi Arabia, through Syria & into Turkey for distribution in Europe that would cripple the Russian's Natural Gas operation that currently is their top money maker. Assad turned down a proposal from the Saudis/US a few years back & instead made a deal with the Russians.

Why Russia got involved A) To protect their National Gas empire & B) To show up Obama by acting as the level headed, peacekeepers to the US's wild eyed, aggressors.

There is no credible evidence to suggest Assad's people used chemical weapons. If there was we would have already attacked. It's illogical that Assad would use chemical weapons when they're winning & have the US eyeballing them looking for a reason to attack. You're incredibly naive if you think the "Rebels" are using "kitchen table" weapons. The CIA has been supplying arms to them via Turkey, Libya & Saudi Arabia.

This is how they manipulate people like you. By getting you so focused on partisan politics & hating your fellow Americans that you lose focus & can't see the dirt our Government is doing right under your nose.
