I've had some evangelical friends say that if we don't stand by Israel and agree with everything they do, then God will no longer bless this country and we will cease to exist. It's based on the verse where God said to Abraham "Those who bless you I will bless; those who curse you, I will curse" So basically that means that if we come out against Jewish settlements in the West Bank, then the U.S. will be destroyed in short time. (I don't believe this, by the way, and I'm an evangelical)
Of course what most Christian zionists forget is that there are palestinian Christians over there who are just as affected by Israeli policies as palestinian muslims. Unfortunately, palestinians are automatically assumed to be muslims--which somehow makes Israeli policies more "okay". So in a way, Christian zionism unintentionally works agaisnt the interests of Arab Christians in Israel. It's also patently unbiblical.

I agree. The United States should put an end to this "special relationship" business with Israel and have a"normal relationship" with Israel, as it has with other friendly nations.
Unfortunately, the reality is that the U.S. will never have "normal relations" with Israel, because the Jewish lobby, led by AIPAC and Jewish money control the U.S. political and financial infrastructures.

What on earth is the deal with this obsession the United States Government has for Israel. Most people who follow politics and graduated high school get why. I take it you don't really follow politics. Okay, It's normal and expected that nations will stand by and defend its close friends and allies; however, the relationship between these two countries have gone far, far beyond that.. appearing more like the United States has some sort of an obsession or Worships The State of Israel as its God and protector. THAT was a very ignorant statement.
The United States, by defining its relationship with Israel in deity or biblical terms, such as "everlasting", "eternal"., etc seems strange, to say the least. To you anyway. No other nations on earth uses such terminology to describe relations with friends or allies. You mean not like all of Islam or much of Europe? OUCH! Such terminology clearly imply that the United States would sacrifice (kill or destroy) it's own citizens, people of other nations, its own economy, its own peace, its own security, etc., for the sake of Israel.Yes to some extent we would, as we did other nations that aligned themselves to us.

Rather than answer you absurd comments, use some basic logic with me here to answer your own question.
What is important to America about Israel? Hint, some of the answer might be in why we have bases in Japan and Germany. Can you answer this question for our studio audience? It is a very basic logical reason, so kind of put the left or right wing politics down to find the answer.

There is some truth to that. We tend to not question Israel on some things where maybe we should. At the same time, those that are often critical of Israel could remove the blinders to the reality that Israel faces in the constant threat.

The United States makes a rational decision not to support unilateral declarations of statehood for an atmosphere that is clearly not ready for it.
In doing so we are making a responsible decision, and standing by an ally.
But then people scream an age-old antisemitic slogan "Jews control the world". Or in this case, America. This is only happening because it is happening to Israel.
Try to imagine if this was happening to the UK. Let's say there was a band of gypsies on England's border killing innocent civilians for 6 decades and then suddenly declares independence. Would people scream "UK controls USA" if we vetoed the declaration?
