GARDENDALE, Ala. — A powerful Republican leader in the Alabama Senate apologized Tuesday for referring to blacks as “aborigines” on recordings played during a federal gambling corruption trial.
Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale said his comments “were careless and unnecessary” and he wants to set things right. Democrats said he ought to step down as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, even though the Republican Caucus has said he would remain.

People should be held responsible for what they inadvertently say. Frequently the gaffs expose underlying thought patterns and beliefs. Apparently this guy is a racist fool. No surprise there.

The guy is an idiot. But "The GOP just breeds racism" wasn't really necessary.

The guy isn't an idiot, he's a racist. They aren't the same thing.

Was in necessary? A strange and intriguing choice of words. What was unnecessary about expressing one's true feelings. Was it unnecessary because he revealed his true feelings. Frankly, I'm a glad that he did. I prefer to speak as they feel not rather than what they think is social acceptable. I want to know how people really think not the some facade that gives a cloak of acceptability.

I agree, and if the OP needs example of Democrats spouting bigoted remarks, he can be provided with them very easily.

But we wouldn't want to awaken him from the Narrative.

I have lived in the South most of my life and I have never heard black people in the U.S. called aborigines. I have heard other words that are racist, but never that word. Is this the new put down word. Maybe some of our frequent visitors to stormfront could clue me in to the use of this word in the U.S. these day.

And I'm definitely not a Republican. It's just that the constant bickering between the sides gets old.

He very might well be racist. But I called him an idiot because of his use of "aborigine". Aborigines = indigneous peoples. His attempt at a put down made him look even more idiotic
