Since roughly 80% of the adult population does not smoke, smokers are a decided minority. I always tell non-smokers there will come a day when something you do the vast majority of people don't do or like including me and you'll need me to stand up in defense of you.

I have lung damage, so smoking anywhere where I can breathe it is a serious issue. I try to be polite when I ask people to stop or move, but it rarely stays polite. I went through 6 months of chemo for a cancer that comes out of the clear blue sky and am working to fix the parts of myself (like the 40 pounds of chemo weight-gain) that put me at risk for secondary cancers. I can't stand watching people do something that consciously puts them and their families in the place that I have been unwillingly thrust.

It has nothing to do with being a majority/minority. It has everything to do with individual rights. Nobody has the right to do something that causes another harm, if you smoke in your own home and you are the only one there, you are free to harm yourself. If you want to smoke within a few feet of me, you are now directly infringing on my individual rights and doing something that has the potential to make me seriously ill.

A lot of smokers are very inconsiderate... They don't seem to care at all about others walking around them, so every once in a while I'll literally get a breathful of cigarette smoke blown right into my face while walking by somebody.

Or when they stand outside buildings right next to the door, so anybody who walks in or out has to go through the plume of cancer-giving smoke. It irritates me to no end.

The only problem is that smoking isn't a habit that only affects you, it effects everyone else around you. Some people like to blast their bass music really loud in their car, but if you're in a residential area, you can't do that by law, because you're affecting others, your forcing them to be exposed to your personal hobby. Smoking is the same way. As long as I don't have to breathe or it or smell it, I could care less if you smoke five packs a day and burn your lungs away.

people smoke for the most part because they have to, not because they want to. we have the liberty to smoke if we want. should non smokers have to breathe it in, no.

Non-smokers generally have major prejudices against smokers, yes.

I don't think they are "treated wrongly". I'm not even sure what that means. They are allowed to smoke if they choose aren't they? That's all anyone deserves.

Yes, I must've missed the part where cigarette smokers are being imprisoned for their habit.

I think smoking is maligned unfairly. It's the current evil of society. I wish people wouldn't be so hypocritical about cigarette smoke & their own health.
