The theory that the small number of black students at Oxford is entirely the result of crude racial discrimination is absurd.
The real fault lies not with the admissions tutors of the university, but with the gross inadequacy of our modern school system — which has dumbed down standards and imposed a culture of low expectations.
The true culprit is the disastrous poverty of aspiration which brands young black people as good for nothing except rap and sport.
Indeed, as a mentor of black teenagers in inner London, I think this slew of recent attacks on Oxford has been grossly irresponsible.
Such outbursts might play well in the trendy liberal salons of the metropolitan elite, whose members love to see themselves as the heroic guardians of the oppressed.
But in the real world, this over-blown rhetoric will do nothing to achieve genuine equality.
These are all good points. However, it is more difficult to solve this problem when many black parents make a point of telling their kids that they would rather have them be a crackhead, pimp or jailbird than be gay and successful. I am not surprised at all by this article.
Only a non-black person could say something so stupid...

I thought academic success just meant that you were "acting white". Now it means you're gay too?
Give me a break! Does everything have to be linked to "gayness" or "non-gayness" ('straight', I guess if you are into this stuff).
I don't order my life around whether something might or mightn't be considered "gay"! Frankly, there is far too much public debate and attention given to so-called 'gay' issues! Why must there be 'gay issues'? There are 'people issues'.
If we treat everybody fairly, we don't have this mess to deal with!

You obviously don't know any black people because I can't imagine any parent black or otherwise telling their kid that they want them be a "crackhead" or a "pimp"!
As an african american, I want to be a huge, flaming homo then.
Let me ask you, since you mentioned it: Are you from Africa? No? Then you are not "African-American".
My ancestors are from England (most of them) and I had a grandfather that was full blooded German, but born here. We don't call ourselves "Euro-Americans", and neither should you call yourself "African-American". It calls your alegience into question. Would you go and live there, rather than here? My guess is that your answer would be, "No".
A couple of my favorite conservatives, and syndicated columnists, Thomas Sowell, and Walter E. Williams, do not call themselves "African-Americans".
And I don't think Herman Cain does either (and I'd vote for him in a heart beat). And no, I didn't vote for Obama, because he is a socialist and Marxist, and I knew it then.

None of that is true and I call B.S. on that and will outright say you've never been around black families.

But you have to understand white America stripped blacks of their ancestry so the only obvious conclusion would be to swing wide in the other direction. In general.
(Yes I've heard these talking points from Rush Limbaugh)
