What a bunch of *******s safeway is. This happens all the time you don't get arrested christ. It has happened to me when the kids get hungry we let them snack on grapes or something sometimes you simply forget to put it on the belt for them to scan. They wouldn't have to worry about banning me for a year I would never shop their again and would sue them as well.
Sue them for what?

I'm surprised that both parents were arrested. I'm thinking/hoping there must be more to the story than this. In Texas officers have the option of issuing a citation for what would be a class C misdemeanor and releasing the person in leu of arresting and taking before the court. I know it's in a different state, but states do have a lot of similarities in how things work. Officers are allowed discretion and I can't imagine any officer arresting both parents and putting the child into state care temporarily over something like that unless there wasn't any other option for whatever reason.

The lesson here is, don't hire dumbasses to work your store.

Or maybe "don't be a dumbass and steal food".

This sort of thinking is why plastic bags are required to say that they aren't meant to be toys and to please don't put them over your head. Are that many people really so stupid?

NEWS FLASH~ This might come as a shock to some people here, but it is not unknown for parents to USE their kids while shoplifting, with the idea that if they are caught they will be treated more leniently.

All shoplifters say they intended to pay for the mdse they were caught with, never yet heard one say otherwise. A lot of them 'forget' their wallets too. Imagine.

Sneaky shoplifters don't consume intendedly untobepaid merchandise in full view.

Except for snarkers.

Snarkers can gobble an entire sandwich in seconds.

Strongly disagree. Reality: the vast majority of human beings cannot live up to your mechanized standard of uniformity.

The hysterical response to what was ADMITTED to be human error, and the refusal on managements part to allow that human error to be corrected on the spot, is management's contempt towards customers. They are the 'enemy' right along with employees.

People mad at actual shoplifters taking their ire out on people who did not intend to shoplift isn't going to solve shoplifting. If they intended to shoplift they would have trashed the bar codes to hide incriminating evidence. This is not the same as eating grapes that haven't been weighed and have no bar code stamp representing an intended purchase. The only thing they're going to accomplish is running off legitimate customers who cannot guarantee impeccable behavior 100% of the time without stepping into legalized land mines under the guise of store policy. When well intended customers leave, the actual thieves will outnumber paying customers and wait-- I'll beat them to their ready made tired excuses-- management will blame the entire community in the investor meeting for why their store is failing.

Take a good hard look how your rationalizations serve to deflect attention from abysmal leadership with it's head stuck up it's own paradigms. Quit denying the reasons why women have no respect for juvenile delinquency passing itself off as authority. I refuse to accept the disgrace of uniforms they're wearing. If a supermarket is operating 3 card monty entrapment games with customers, it's no longer a valid business. It's PT Barnum BS.

Lightbulb my 2 cents

I do NOT think this was her first time munching on the store's sandwiches/or any store/ that she "oops" forgot to pay for....

For those that think I am bashing the pregnant women, when I was preggers, I NEVER opened anything in the supermarket and started munching on it.

Even before I was pregnant and long since after. And neither have my kids ever been instructed to eat the supermarket fixin's.

I think it was a "learned response" by her. I think she thinks it's okay to walk down the aisle and eat the store's sandwich.

Did they over-react at the end? Yes. Pretty extreme stuff.

But if the mom had not been stuffing the sandwich down her throat this would have NEVER happened.

Now if you know you are preggers and you know you will never make it one hour shopping, then why not have a tastey sandwich, that you MADE at home, that is waiting in your car INSTEAD of eating the "store's sandwich" which is what it IS until you PAY for it?

What if she "oops" forgot to pay for it in the end? ....Oh wait, oops she DID forget.

How many times has she forgotten to pay for stuff in the supermarket prior to this??

I don't buy the innocent stuff

How many here walk down the aisles stuffing their mouths with store property?

Are you serious? it was a sandwich wrapped up to be sold, There doesn't have to a be sign that says, "Please don't open and eat the food", that's implied since it was for sale, wrapped and sealed.

I had an old teacher that once told us, "Never ask the question, if your not prepared to live with the answer".. Trust me, than answer to "Are that many people really so stupid?" would be yes.

Yeah, but was the motive to steal, or to pay?

Burp
