It may have been done by fringe groups but never by any official in the Democratic party. The depiction of Obama is been circulated by official sources within the GOP not just some fringe groups out there. The GOP today seems like one huge fringe group based on the way the party is evolving.

The Bush depictions were never circulated by officials in the Democratic party. However the violent depiction of President Obama with a bullet in his head was created and circulated by Loudon County GOP committee officials in the state of Virginia. Major difference.
