This is how the stimulous money SHOULD have been spent....instead of bailing out Wall Street and the big banks. That is why I think people who believe Obama to be a socialist.....or even a liberal....are nuts. He did just what the moneyed class desired....continued to bail them out and leave the working people of this country to sink on their own. That money should have been spent on building roads, railroads, bridges, repairs of schools, etc. And it should have been done right away before the tea party nuts took over congress....now nothing worthwhile will get done.

Small apartments and/or RV type FEMA trailers could be erected to provide the families a safe space to live in where they would have access to shower, wash clothes and see a doctor if need be. The children could be provided a libarary and computer lab to do homework. Adults could spend days looking for work or training for another job while kids are in school. And it really would not cost that much because the government already owns the land. What ideas do you have to help the homeless family living in cars? Or do you think that they should be helped at all?
I think it would be a lot cheaper than giving $2000 each for Section 8 housing and food stamps to buy anything they want including selling them to get cash. FEMA trailers I think would be better than housing project apartments, but it shouldn't be luxury, they should want to get out of this situation.

We are 110 trillion dollars in debt, we can't afford anymore government programs.
You're 110 trillion dollars in debt? Who's your credit card provider?

Not at all, what I'm saying is that writers know what to add or leave out of an article to pull the heart strings of the reader...

The world is a cruel place, the fittest survive the rest go six feet under...

You want to help them? go right ahead, there are enough of you bleeding hearts around to buy a few abandoned military bases, fix them up and provide food and medical care for the needy for the rest of their lives...

Good point - the illegals and non-citizens have homes they've abandoned back home, and there is a much lower unemployment rate in the countries most the illegals came from, if such a program isn't limited to citizens, you can expect a large onslaught of people coming over the border to cash in on this.

I think there should be mandatory drug testing - anyone who has money to waste on drugs can pay their own way and shouldn't be mooching off taxpayers.

"For whatsoever you do to the least of these you do unto me." This country truly has lost its soul.

I agree. Obama should have went big. He tried compromise and moderation. Now we have the GOP thinking gutting social programs and more tax cuts will somehow magically fix the problem. We're so screwed.

Imagine what America would have been like if obama and crew gave that 700 billion dollar bail-out amongst the 315 million Americans instead of his cronies...

I've been homeless...long story but it was basically our rental changed hands and the new owner had other plans which didn't include us..it did include moving in a whole bunch of illegals and charging them $150 per head to live there.
We had jobs, but at the time ,'05 in our area, the rental market was tight ad we were not in a position to buy.
We were in a shelter for 5 mos. unitl we got enough $$ saved to offer 1st, last and 3mos additional rent in advance. $$ talks. We've been here 6 years now.
Anyway, we have no family to speak of. My parents are dead, and I have no siblings sve for a half-sister (no idea where she is) and my hubby's dad ran off when he was 5 mos. old...his mom lives in a trailer in CA... so, no help there.
Point is, many don't have family. The shelter was a Godsend. BTW, they charged, if you had a job, to stay there, and I had absolutely no problem paying, and now, 6 years on, I donate every chance I get..a.and I'm not the only one, the director says that quite a few former residents donate on a regular basis.
Just wanted to give a little insight.
