I have an MS degree in chemical engineering, yet I've been unemployed for six months after getting a job for a little more than a year after finishing school.
Go.
At least you're admitting that it's the conservatives that will be the ones to get this country working.
My advice? Vote Republican. Your field probably has been destroyed by out-of-control regulation. The GOP would be the best party to get those regulations under control.
But I'm sure you won't. Because you're obviously a liberal, so you'd rather sit at home, whining about how you can't find your dream job, all the while not doing the tough work that you might need to do to find work.
Also, it seems like it is much easier to find a job when you are employed for some reason.
It also happens to me. It takes me foreeeeever to find a job, then when I finally start working I get calls from other places.
It's like WTF?
Also, I want to add that when I got out of the Army with a Top Secret/SCI clearance I could not find a job anywhere. I ended up working for Jc Penney.... I had bills to pay and I was not ashamed one bit. You work with what you have to get you by.
I shouldn't be responding to a hostile post like this, but obviously I know I'm supposed to be searching for jobs, particularly those where my skill set is in demand.
I'm talking both practically in the short-term and philosophically in the long-term.
Right, because by addressing your post to conservatives, you weren't trying to be hostile AT ALL?
Make yourself nimble and mobile. Don't get into any binding leases or contracts, and tell your girlfriend you're moving to where the jobs are (she can come with you or you can put your relationship on hiatus in order to get experience.) If you confine yourself geographically to one area, then you'll suffer in this economy. The key to success right now is mobility.

It's not about your degree or getting a job. Do you know if your going to Heaven? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your savior? You need to go to church and get saved. That's the most important thing right now. The first step is gaining eternal life, then you can talk about getting a job.

You need to pack your crap up and head south on I-35.
When you get to Dallas Tx, take I-45 south. When you get to Houston, take I-10 to Port Arthur/Beaumont.
The refineries are hiring.

Touche.
The reason I'm addressing this to conservatives is that there have been many suggestions that unemployed people are lazy, unproductive, and trying to live off of the government. Also, there seems to be a belief that the unemployed live in a dream world where they don't understand that they need to improve their skills. Apparently, liberals would just shower me with cash with toil from your backs, so I know what they would recommend for me to do.

Get your PhD, learn Portugese, and send your CV with your plans out to every pharmaceutical, oil, and chemical company.
When you have completed your degree, your will have a job. Currently there is an oil boom in North Dakota. I am sure that you could get a job there. If not, how about the oil shale industry in Canada? Keep in mind that the location for your job is not so important as gaining job experience.
