Iran threatens to close key Gulf oil route - World news - Mideast/N. Africa - Iran - msnbc.com

I can't see how this could NOT end in open warfare, unless Iran is bluffing...

So we illegally enter their airspace, constantly rattle our sabers and try to impede their sovereignty, and when they have enough and threaten to close off some shipping lanes they own and stop doing business with the entities which keep poking them in the eye with a stick, the entities get all bent out of shape and decide it'll be a good idea to FORCE that country to keep doing business.

God bless the US - the biggest nation of hypocrites to ever walk the earth. It's like some guy who walks up to you and punches you in the face, then goes "Hey, but you're still gonna give me a few bucks to go buy some beer, right?"

The strait of Hormuz has gotta be the most tactical piece of watery real estate on the planet and oil is our civilization's drug.

This is kinda like some dude with a bone to pick (he's probably fed up with us jacking his car stereo all the time) blocking the road to our crack dealer's corner so we can't buy our hits anymore.

Perhaps this should be a problem to the European countries that depend on the raw crude oil coming from Iran since the U.S. doesn't get oil from Iran.

I am sure the Iranians haven't forgotten 1953!

They can threaten and run naval exercises all they want. They know they don't want and can't tangle with the U.S. Naval fleet. Their neighbors won't support them, and any engagement will be over quickly with just over 35% of their naval vessels at the bottom of the Strait.

They can bluster 'till they're blue in the face. They have no power nor authority to do what they claim they can do. And they know it.

Most of the oil from there ends up in Asia, but of course the price of oil would skyrocket everywhere.

Light crude closed today at $101.34
Brent Crude " " at $108.96

It is not yet to the 52 week highs but the trend for several week has been upward.

It has been fairly stable, but if the Iranians try to close the gulf, the prices would go out of control.
