Appeals court: Texas may enforce abortion law | khou.com Houston

Quote:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Texas abortion law passed last year that requires doctors to show sonograms to patients can be enforced while opponents challenge the measure in court, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

A three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks' temporary order against enforcing the law, saying Sparks was incorrect to rule that doctors had a substantial chance of winning their case.
Note that they did not rule the law constitutional. Instead, they're simply saying it can be enforced while it's being challenged.

I don't want this to turn into another general abortion thread and hope that discussion is limited to this ruling, the laws in question, and similar laws or proposals in other states.

What's wrong with a well-rounded education for those who obviously need to be educated? Afterall, avoiding pregnancy is probably one of the easiest things to do, but yet some people still flub it and don't want to take responsibility for it.

I say educate the masses by showing them what they've done wrong. The Court ruling allows for education to take place while the Constitutionality is determined. I support it.

So, now women are not just whores but too stupid to know that they're carrying a fetus.
Funny, they don't make this occur for any other elective surgery.

Women as lesser people.
How lovely.

Are the fathers going to be forced to see the sonograms, also?

Texas already has a lot of legal requirements before an abortion. I assume the goal is to make abortion providers so frustrated that they just stop performing abortions.

If there is no medical need for a sonogram and the state demands that one should be done anyway......the state should pay for it.

Abortion Debate: Little Evidence Sonograms Change Minds, Doctors Say | Texas Abortion Debate | Politics & Medical Ethics | LiveScience

Quote:
The study, published in 2009 in the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care, found that, when given the option, 72 percent of women chose to view the sonogram image. Of those, 86 percent said it was a positive experience. None changed their mind about the abortion.
This bill is nothing more than unnecessary harrassment put upon women seeking to abort.

And just how is forcing a woman to view a sonogram going to educate her regarding the proper use of birth control?

One of the largest educators regarding the proper use of birth control is Planned Parenthood, yet pro-lifers want to shut them down.

Planned Parenthood Struggles After State Budget Cuts

The Texas Legislature also recently cut Planned Parenthood funding enough that many locations were forced to shut down.

I am generally fiscally conservative, but have zero problem with funding for Planned Parenthood. Think about all the savings in welfare.

If liberals love Planned Parenthood so much, and believe in its capacity to educate the public on parenthood, then they are free to open up their wallets for the causes that they support. No one is stopping them. But we know that won't happen. Right? It's everyone else's money or none at all.
