Kennedy wanted to maintain an advisory role only.

Johnson was weak and allowed himself to be manipulated by McNamara and the rest.

I haven't forgotten her. I too was in Vietnam at that time. I wish someone had recorded her incredibly insulting propaganda broadcasts on Hanoi Hanah's radio program ("You GIs are a bunch of suckers..."). They would make very interesting listening today.
I wish her no harm for the mistaken ideology of her youth, certainly not eternal torment. She has reportedly become a Christian in her later years, and if so that makes her my sister in Christ. Still, if I had done what she did, I wouldn't be able to accept such an award as she is being considered for.

No it wasn't, and no movie has accurately portrayed it.

Yes she did, her money was running short and she needed the publicity.

Some things one can forgive and forget but going to the country that was at war with America and manning the guns that killed American pilots?

No frigging way will I forgive her or forget her socialist actions against Americans.

I haven't forgotten either. Brain cells are funny that way - they remember things. I guess I'm special too... since I haven't forgotten what she did. I lost a parent in that useless war, yet I am not whining like some of you. The people pretending to be so outraged really need to get some perspective.

Money? She has never had an issue with not having money, rest assured, what a lame attempt to dismiss.

Read up on this; most of the stories are false. I'm not suggesting that Hanoi Jane is a prize, but this email forward which has been going around for over a decade, is not worth a crap either, historically speaking.

Do the pictures of Fonda sitting with that gun crew lie? Who was the woman in those pictures? Oh well, you really see her as a hero even though she sidled up to Jon Carry in 1971 or 2 calling the American soldiers murderers and baby killers. She was as low back then as Carry was.

Where were you when Kennedy escalated that war so much by sending in more troops? I guess you weren't around back then since it is over 50 years ago.

Yeah? Well, I wasn't there so I only know the results. Kennedy sent the first men there; Johnson built it up. I certainly agree that it was primarily Johnson's war, but McNamara was simply the secretary of defense. For whatever reason Johnson escalated the war, it falls on his shoulders.

But that's neither here nor there. The point is that Jane Fonda went WAAAAY to far by cozying up with the Vietcong. To call her a traitor is pretty much spot-on, imho.

If Obama is indeed honoring her with an award, it will not be appreciated by the men who fought in Nam. Pretty stupid in an election year, but....
