You either don't know Mexican food or you don't know Chicago

It's the latter of the two. I've spent a fair amount of time in Chicago but my exposure is admittedly limited. Having said that, I truly enjoyed Rick Bayless's food at Frontera, my other limited samplings, not so much. Quality was good but it was incredibly bland, almost as though they intentionally avoided using spices.

Why did you go there in the first place?
You sound so surprised that people in the Midwest are not like people in L.A. Why did you assume they would be similar? A few weeks ago was mid-February, so the weather was probably not nearly as inviting as in California. That also plays a role regarding the way people dress and behave.

All in all I guess I would prefer the more down-to-earth way of the Midwest to California or Florida.

That's the source of your hate. Admit it. Stop being ignorant of something you hate.

Funny story. I went to a restaurant to eat with a friend of mine and i asked the server if they had anything vegan on the menu, she looked at me and said "im sorry, but i dont know what vegan is". I was like "reaaaaallyy" ??? and then i just had a salad.
Other thing ive realized is that at the moment you meet someone they ask you "what religion are you" or "do you believe in God" ? i was like, who cares ?
The Mid West is like another world, i was in shocked.
Years ago a man while a passenger on a jet was surprised when a stewardess snatched an alcoholic drink from him. He asked her, "Why did you do that for?" She answered, "Because we are about to enter dry air space--Oklahoma." And so Oklahoma was so unbelievably backward to that man that he had to move to that state to believe and witness it for himself. As a result he created a web site called: Bubbaworld

They're nice. Yea. I lived in Georgia for a year and i had no issues with anyone for the most part.

But overall? Nooooooooooooooooooooooo. Not a place i'd live and raise a family in if i had my way.

Not mine! I've got a fabulous taqueria right around the corner and Cemitas Puebla right down the block.

I did like Frontera and Topolobampo though, so Bayless is alright with me.

Some people are so obvious in their hate. Are you still on the plantation?
Funny...you made a racial connection. I didn't do it nor did i have to. You presumed that there is a problem, and you know damn well why you made that presumption, don't you?

My motive is history. My grandfather worked his ass off to get my family out of the south (and you know why without me saying so), and i'll be damn if i'll move my ass back down there to live if i don't have to.

Plantation? I live in Southeastern Arizona. You be the judge.

I am curious what part of the Midwest the OP actually visited. Definitely doesn't sound like she visited Chicago.
