We got the great orator running around screaming about how legal scholars know more than supreme court judges and in the meantime the post office wants out to cut costs. The insanity continues.

(CNSNews.com) - The United States Postal Service (USPS) is currently working towards delivering a private health insurance plan to its employees and wants to opt out of the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP.)
“If provided the authority to do so, we believe that we can provide our employees and retirees with the same or better health coverage for significantly less cost, ” said Postmaster General and CEO Patrick Donahoe during his testimony to the House Oversight Committee.

Postal employees can get health insurance for self only for as little as $25 a month, so I don't see how the Post Office thinks it can offer something just as good for cheaper.

I never considered the FEHBP as "government run" healthcare as your title would state. It is group insurance provided by the government as an employer. No different than any other group of insurance policies that are offered by any large private employer.

It could be that the Post Office believes that if they break off and "self-insure" and go with one plan that they could offer better/cheaper insurance. They may or may not be correct. My husband works for a large trades union. They are self-insured and they manage it extremely well. In fact, they have managed costs so well, they were able to lower our deductible to $150 per person, a few years ago. My husband pays about $800 per year in dues. Part of those dues cover his health care premiums. Deal for sure. So, maybe they can do better. But please don't think they are saying "THEY DON'T WANT GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE." That's misleading.

Cost the employee $25 a month. How much it costs the post office is the issue. More unions sucking the teet dry.

Excellent observations. The underlying point of this thread is like the people who whine about the cadillac plan that members of Congress get, never mentioning that they simply get the same range of health insurance choices that all federal government employees get.
