but i guess this is what passes for entertainment in america now-and they are poor role models, both of them.
Even worse is that comedians and "personalities" now pass for serious political commentators. Our elections have always been a joke, but now the joke is on us.
Well, yeah but you Canadians are very superior to we Americans, at least you think you are.
No Roy, we are not superior. We are a far more reasonable people though. This reasonableness is not intrinsic but a result of the vagarieties of history. We have created a sovereign country through negotiation rather than through revolution. We have never resorted to civil war to solve our regional disputes. Canada above all else is a country based and maintained by compromise and not by conflict. Canadian nationalism is based on common values and not on racial or religous grounds. We tend to dislike extremists of any kind and they could never attract many of us to listen to their bellowing blunder. In Canada you do not go into public service to get rich because the truth is, you won't. Special interests don't have much power here because they can't give anything to the political process. Not one single red cent. That fact alone keeps our politics reasonable sane and it preserves the quality of everyone. The CEO of the TD bank has one vote just like me. He can give $1200 a year to political causes just like me.
We could still use plenty of reform in politics but we are lightyears ahead of the broken down disfunctional system that is so badly failing the American people.
