Im sure you will not like what I have to say Toyman, but yes, you are correct with saying "Not all blacks are ni**ers. There is a distinct difference in my opinion.
I don't mine that you say that, and I agree. My issue really is the hypocrasy of those that say that some of these terms are acceptable and some are not. In modern usage, the term ni**er has come to refer to lazy, urban, gangsta, welfare trash. (LUGWT). And there is a huge distinction between hard working, professional, family-oriented, successful blacks and LUGWT. The reason some blacks, particularly successful ones, hate term is that it associates all blacks with LUGWT. This is perfectly understandable.
The real problem with the term is with usage. It is used to perpetuate a sterotype, to imply inferiority and to be hurtful. As such, the tern ni**er is no different than terms like redneck, trailer trash, hillbilly or cracker. And the people that use those terms in that manner are equally ignorant and offensive.

I had to laugh because many slurs against anglos like redneck, gring o, whitey and so on are only only Ok but are even the names of businesses like the Redneck Bank, Dos Gringos here in Arizona. Even honkytonk is Ok. But no one will use similar slurs like the N word, G word or the S word for Blacks, Asians or Hispanics in that same way. Tho "bean" many times means a coffee place.

I heard a saying a few years back that kinda goes along with that... "Not all blacks are ni**ers, and not all ni**ers are black". Not offensive when used that way, right?
Yea...it's still offensive. I don't really wanna hear that being used in reference to black people PERIOD by non-blacks in any circumstance...unless it's used as outlined by Chris Rock. LMAO.
Even though most of them sound comparatively harmless in themselves, still, they are not ok because of their usual malicious intent and orgin, when uttered.
Here's one that I've still to understand; "You people", that was take offence to, I still don't know why. At the time I was referring to civil servants!
I only asked; "What is it with you people", and received a shed load of hostility in return.
Yes, this person was of another race, but that was no excuse, I only asked because she was acting like an idiot, and treating me in a condescending manner.
