What if twitter was around when the riots happened? Here's the riots in real time on Twitter. Just pretend it's 1992. I think people are covering events as they happened during the riot.

Interesting post, btw... I was just thinking about the riots earlier, since the 20th anniversary was a few days ago (can you believe it's been that long??), and the Sublime song "April 29, 1992" came on the radio. I imagine if Twitter and FB had been around back then, they would have been more organized in the rioting - like flash mob style or something. Maybe it also would have subsided more quickly, as we saw with the riots in Oakland following the Oscar Grant trial? During that incident people were immediately on those sites, pleading with their community to keep things civilized. Pure speculation, but this communication may have actually helped, since the results were MUCH less violent that we all expected.

FYI: Here's the song to which I was referring above... and yes, they really did title the song with the wrong date. But it's a great song anyway, from one of my favorite bands ever!

Interesting idea. Ive heard of the same concept for D-Day. As much as I find the net useful, I think we were a better world before internet and cable news.

One other technology that would be interesting had it been around in 92 would be today's cell phones. Few people had a cell phone in 92. If the types we have today had been around back then you would have had lots of people using their phone's cameras to record things and then uploading it on Youtube. But it would be funny because the LAPD would be using youtube videos to help track down looters and those caught assaulting people.
