African-Americans voted 2-1 in favor of the North Carolina amendment banning gay marriage Tuesday, but the White House is betting that black voters there and beyond will stick with the president, despite broad resistance to legalization.

Obama’s statement rocked the political world. But it also underscored a widely held belief that African-American voters are closer to Republicans than Democrats when it comes to gay marriage.

Gay marriage: Black voters remain divided - Joseph Williams - POLITICO.com

Will the media hammer "black bigots"?

And if not, why not?

BEcause their skin color is not the reason.....it is likely because they are overwhelmingly of the Christian faith......

I can not be sure But knowing what I know of Jesus, I would guess he would be a friend to the gays as well......

Ok, so what was the White vote split, or the Asian vote, or the whatever other race out there vote%. Since Blacks account for 21% of North Carolinas population, about 2million people(many who can't, or did not vote)I am pretty sure they weren't solely responsible for the gay marriage vote. Just another "Black people this" article/post.

The attitudes of the black community towards gay marriage has been done to death. Does this come as a surprise to you?

Blacks are something like 5x more likely to commit a hate crime against a gay per the FBI hate crime stats. Not exactly sure that these are black christians....

It is an odd dichotomy. The group with the most recent history of being discriminated against en masse is the group mostly likely to discriminate against gays.

Leaders of the civil rights movement were closely tied to churches, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. It's likely a cultural thing.

I guess many will have a difficult time this election season.

Do you vote Obama "because he's black"...

or, do you vote Romney and stick to your principles.

Tough one.

No, its a "media this" post. Are we supposed to check in with the PC Patrol every time we post?
