The same demographic that overwhelmingly for President Obama also was responsible for twice upholding marriage as a union between a man and a woman in California: African-Americans.

Any notion that Tuesday's election represented a liberal juggernaut must overcome a detail from the voting booths of California: The same voters who turned out strongest for Barack Obama also drove a stake through the heart of same-sex marriage.
Seven in 10 African Americans who went to the polls voted yes on Proposition 8
President Obama is beholden to these pro family values African-Americans, and won't make any major changes to the institution of marriage while he is in office.
This is the dirty little secret that liberals don't want made known.

I know what you are thinking and are hoping for that blacks will come rushing into the {R} party over the gay marriage issue.I see blacks more likely to hold their noses and continue to pull the lever for the {D} party, makes no sense they would rush too the {R} party in droves over one issue.

That's silly. A second term president is beholden to nobody but his own legacy.
With that said, Obama is not going to make major changes to the institution of marriage because it is quite frankly not that high on his list of things to do; plus he is quite conservative himself (although you wouldn't know that by listening to Fox News).
Black opinion on gay marriage is shifting. I see it in the sports community with all the activism going on.
Support for gay marriage among African-Americans, one of the Democratic Party’s most reliable voting blocs, lags behind the rest of the party. But just as President Obama has offered high-profile support on the issue and an African-American NBA player came out as gay this week, public opinion among blacks has also been shifting. .
Gay marriage has been settled at the national level. Obama or any other president is done with it. It is all up to the states now.

I don't think you're accurately judging the situation. The African-Americans didn't vote for him because they like his policies. They voted for him because he's black.
Black unemployment was higher than all other unemployment in 2008 when they voted in Obama. In 2012 black unemployment was higher than all other unemployment. And they voted for him again, and in the same high numbers.
Blacks have consistently voted for Democrats for decades, no matter what. Violent crime increases. Drug use increases. Education fails. Unemployment rises. It doesn't matter. The Democrats simply say "Republicans are racists" and the black community falls in line like lemmings.

These are two statements .... in the same post, no less. That make no sense when put together.
Because he's black
Because they would have anyway.
Then it does'nt matter anyway.
OP Should've mentioned the war on Christmas. That would've gotten even more responses.
Gay ...black....Christmas. Yeah, get 1000 responses to that one.
Guess what. You can be Black and have separate opinions about things. Like who should be President and what a marriage is.
It appears the OP wants everyone to be Nazis and march in lock step. That's their idea of how things should be. Gimme a break.

Sure they make sense.
They always vote for Democrats in majority numbers.
But they voted for Obama in statistically unheard-of numbers that have never before happened.
Given that blacks are already predisposed to voting for Democrats over racial rhetoric despite Democrat policies not matching the views of the black community on other issues, and given that they supported Obama himself in even greater numbers than they usually support Democrats, it is highly unlikely that Obama's stance on a given issue will dissuade the black community from supporting him. That was the point I made.

Guess what. The black community voted as a bloc for Obama. Both times. Reality doesn't match what you're saying.

When you're peddling partisan drivel, you don't deserve a break. The black community voted for Obama in numbers that no other community has ever voted for a President in recorded history. Between 2008 and 2012 the crime, drug use, education, and unemployment situation in the black community made no noticeable improvement. In 2012 the black community voted for Obama in numbers that no other community has ever voted for a President in recorded history. Except the black community for Obama in 2008.
What you're saying are platitudes. What I'm saying is based on facts from election returns.
But they voted for Obama in statistically unheard-of numbers that have never before happened.
only by 0-2% over gore.
percentage of black vote:
obama 95% (2008)
obama 93% (2012)
gore 93%
kerry 88%
clinton 84% (1996)
