...does that mean we should end social security? What about public libraries, post offices, police forces, fire departments, and public schools? Why don't we privatize them so only those who can afford it are allowed these amenities? Let's not forget Medicaid and Medicare. The conservatives don't want government telling us how to live except for who we should marry and what women can and can't do with their bodies. They'd rather leave that to Wall Street and let the whole world be owned by one big giant corporation. They think socialized medicine is an atrocity because HMO's and insurance companies have their fingers in everybody's pies. Pardon me if you think I'm unkind for believing doctors should go into medicine to help people and not because they want to live in a McMansion with 18 widescreen plasma TV's, drive 5 BMW's, and pontificate their net value to everyone at the country club, the golf course, or aboard their fancy yachts.
Better yet, what about the military? The military isn't just socialist; it's communist. This I know because I served myself. They have an agenda by which everyone lives. Nobody is allowed to live where they want. All property and businesses are owned by the state, and you forfeit your Constitutional rights by joining. Soldiers are considered government property. My company commander even told me, "Nothing in the military is optional." They even have socialized medicine. We've been using communism to stop the spread of communism in the name of liberty when it was really all about capitalism. We've even used tax dollars to make rich CEO's of defense companies like Halliburton and Lockheed Martin become richer.
I know, I know! How dare you speak that way about those serving our country, bleeding-hearted liberal! Thou shalt be sent to Guantanamo Bay and waterboarded! Off with his head, right? If socialism and communism are so horrible, why do we continue bartering with China and outsourcing jobs there while there's still an embargo on Cuba? I can promise everyone China has a longer track record of human rights violations than Cuba or even the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, all we know about socialism is what we were told growing up during the Cold War or what those idiots on FOX News say. They don't know the difference between actual socialism, Marxism, and communism which is an extreme form of socialism. Some even confuse it with fascism with the exact opposite. What say you about this one?

The federal government should stick to what its allowed to do in accordance with the constitution and let the states and individuals work out the rest.

We don't THINK it is horrible, we KNOW it is horrible - in the extreme. It produces nothing but enables all to consume.
But you'd rather have pure capitalism with no cap-and-trade and let the rich consume all? The whole premise of socialism was for everyone to work as hard as they can and get what they need. You should read Das Kapital or The Communist Manifesto sometime whenever you get a chance.

Now, that would be borderline anarchy. If we're going to let all the states govern themselves, we might as well just grant them all their own sovereignty and become a continent of 50 different countries. We tried that before the Civil War, and that didn't go very well.

I am no so much interested in its "premise" as I am its real-world, working results, which are dismal. From the day the Mayflower people came here under a socialistic compact and nearly died because nobody produced goods, until today. socialism doesn't work.
Why, you ask. Because nobody is going to bust their azz only to get a statistically-significant, if that, increase in the collective production. If they are going to bust their azz, they will do so if they benefit DIRECTLY and in DIRECT PROPORTION to their efforts.
And now you know the rest of the story. The real-world, boots-on-the-ground story - NOT premise.

The states, the original 13 colonies, created the federal government. Period. What you assert is poppy-****, with apologies to poppies and kox.
No, it means we should get it out of the Federal government.

(other nonsense and lies about conservatives deleted)
Do you frequently suffer from these spells of hysterical, incoherent ranting?
My sympathies.
