So this means America and Europe is also stuck in the 19th century. Try becoming a masseur or working in daycare as a man. Good luck with that.
Parents in China want their kids to be taught English by a white person. Why? Because they do not know if the teacher is good or not. The only way they can judge a teacher is by his looks. Asian English teachers tend to be bad, and they think of blacks as Africans. However, whites tend to be good in English.
You can not change these attitudes overnight, and I don't think about it as a big problem. I don't think liberals do either, because job discrimination is very common around the world. Why talk about ESL teachers in China?
There's a sizable number of black American women who get jobs teaching English in South Korea. As I have already pointed out, they are on youtube making videos about this very topic.
It may require more work, but clearly, it's not impossible or even very difficult for an educated black person to get a teaching job in South Korea. Many of the schools judge the person by their individual merits (as they should). If the person does well during the interview and has solid credentials, they are usually hired.
One reason why I say African Americans whine too much. Most of the world is unabasedly racist. Actually to be more accurate they respect power and achievement. As far as the Chinese are concerned Blacks haven't created or done anything that demands their respect.
The Chinese are being practical, if they want to learn English why would they want to be taught by someone who speaks Ebonics?
Oh good grief. My family is multi racial through adoption. Do you think my black son speaks ebonics? I don't think I know an African American who speaks ebonics--you watch too many movies. My bet is that his command of the language is a heck of a lot better than yours, and he has a pretty much full ride academic scholarship to college next year to prove it.
People like you are the reason why some liberals call conservatives racists, and it ticks me off. I don't want anything to do with your type of attitude--it doesn't belong in the republican party.

And? While Chinese tend to be overwhelmingly represented among native speakers of Chinese, whites are not the only native speakers of English who are qualified to teach the language at a high level to foreigners. I earned a lot of money in grad school doing editing for Asian college professors for whom writing in English was a challenge. Each one told me I was the best editor they had ever worked with.
Appalling to see that this country is so ignorant and backwards regarding race. When recruiting ESL teachers, only whites need apply. This is not a country that should be leading the free world, on any level. Makes one wonder what level of ignorance immigrants from China bring to this country regarding race?

Not really surprising. The Chinese government has totally disrespected Gary Locke in a way that they never disrespected Jon Huntsman when he was US ambassador to China. They're stuck with stereotypes about US power being exclusively "white" and thus a Chinese-American as US ambassador is considered to them to be "lesser" than a white American.
