Correction. The guy who lost the AG race was, in fact, not the current attorney general. He's a federal prosecutor who went on a crusade against medical marijuana in the state. It was nice to see him soundly defeated, though!
And hopefully more drug warriors will fail in their attempts to win office.
There will be more opponents of the war on drugs from not only the Democratic side of the aisle, but the Republican side of the aisle, too. Ron Paul has plenty of disciples and it appears they will play a role in the future of the GOP.
All these burn-outs need to realize. They will never be able to go and buy this crap and smoke it legally.
They said something like that in the 1990s in Oklahoma about legalizing lotteries and casinos. Then the 2000s came and they got legalized.
Besides, more and more people are finding out the truth behind why marijuana was legalized, becoming disgusted about it, and want to make up for it by relegalizing it.
However the Mexican cartels would be very in favor of legalization of all drugs in the USA and may be gaining power in El Paso.
Bunk.
The cartels stand to literally lose everything if drugs are legalized. With companies like Monsanto and RJ Reynolds providing the raw materials, Pfizer, Merck and other drug companies turning those raw materials into consumable drugs, and stores like CVS, Walgreens, and gas stations everywhere providing end-user distribution, there's no room in the supply chain for cartels.
And that, in and of itself, is a good enough reason to favor legalization.
It's actually possible that the defeat of Reyes had more to do with accusations of corruption and special contracts for his family members more than El Pasoans' eagerness to legalize all drugs. However the Mexican cartels would be very in favor of legalization of all drugs in the USA and may be gaining power in El Paso.
There is no reason that the cartels would not continue to supply every kind of drug since they have the meth labs, and control the cocaine and heroin shipments from S. America.
No, they aren't.
Now I don't know about the details of this election, but much like the mob, they don't want prohibition to end
And who are you to decide that? Furthermore, it is already legal for medical purposes in several states with more states pushing for it. More people are waking up to the lies and propaganda surrounding marijuana, and it's about damned time!
But hey, keep bowing to your masters and believing the BS.
You mean like how the Prohibition gangsters were in favor of legalizing alcohol?
Capone donated money to "dry" candidates and rewarded politicians who supported alcohol prohibition. In general, the Prohibition mobsters all knew that once Repeal happened they'd lose a ton of money.
Cartel money donated to the California Chamber of Commerce (C of C contributions can be made anonymously) helped defeat Prop 19 in California.
It has been alleged by some Arizona Republicans that the cartels have contributed to Joe Arpaio's campaigns.
And just why do you think the foreign cartel bosses will turn over their power and vast networks easily? They have no reason to -- they already control the very open borders, there is already more than plenty of money that there is no need for them to fight over it.
They are not going to put on suits and ties and apply for fast food worker jobs, only the most incredibly naive believe that.
EL PASO, Texas -- National news media are focusing heavily on Beto O'Rourke's stance on marijuana legalization, despite the fact O'Rourke said he will not champion the issue.
"What I have promised the people of El Paso is I am not running to legalize marijuana.
O'Rourke said the pot issue is making headlines because "it's something that's sensational for national writers to look at."
Huh?
The president's DOJ is waging a full-scale war on medical marijuana despite promises to respect states' rights in the matter.
Funny how in all the talk about broken promises by the president, this one is somehow ALWAYS overlooked by the cons.
As for the results of this particular election, I do think that it had more to do with the perception of corrunption on the part of his opponent and the fact that I think that people are just plain tired of entrenched politicians.
Also the homicide rates in the USA are considerably down from what they once were. Down to 1911 levels. Our streets are not all that dangerous for the most part.
Mexico decriminalized all drugs and that has not stopped the cartels.
