The MLK scholarship seems to have a race minded component that has them looking like trash IMO.
A CLASS organization would NEVER have brought this up. They would have lived with this little mistake and made later changes as not harm the child (which they did). They should have ate this little mistake and fixed it so it didn't happen again.
I can only say the MLK organization needs to have their board purged of their possible racists and flim flam directors and instead operate with integrity and a blind eye toward race in the future.
I would suggest nobody donate again to this joke of a fund and spend it in a real one where they base it on the merit of their need and not the color of their skin.
That whole board should be gone and I suspect they are using the money illegally other places if they are doing this now. They should be investigated. In fact the parents should sue on behalf of their child and do so in the light of the news.
"I have a dream....that one day ALL people will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin."
Yea, right.....
Another fan of Dr. King....now that he's safely in his grave of course.
Anyway, the kid should've kept the dough. Did the organization tell him to return it? If not, then keep it. I can't pull up the link for some reason. No one would care about a measly grand anyway if he kept it.
I have a feeling that this story is more hyperbole than anything else.
Your thread title indicates the student HAD to return the scholarship but I'm not sure I got that info from reading the link. I think the student chose to do the appropriate thing.

No, the organization should have ate the little mistake and never put the kid in the position of getting treatened, made fun of or Lord knows what else. Even returning this may have turned the child into some kind of target at school, I don't know, do you?
The did harm to a child and that was wrong and could still turn out bad for the child.

I think he used his 4.25 GPA to figure out that if he didn't return it thier would have been a line to beat it out of him at school by race minded people. This put the child in a bad spot and this has left him in the spotlight.
I hope this doesn't scar this kid if he becomes a boss some day from hiring certain people who denied him? Not good!

if I would have been the student I would have kept the money for college. let them get it back if it that important to them.
