2- The Negro Must Stop Expecting God and White Folk To Do For Him What He Can Do for Himself.

3- The Negro Must Keep Himself, His Children and His Home Clean And Make The Surroundings In Which He Lives Comfortable and Attractive.

4- The Negro Must Dress More Approximately For Work And For Leisure

5- The Negro Must Make his Religion An Everyday Practice And Not Just A Sunday-- Go To-Meeting
Emotional Affair.

6- The Negro Must Highly Resolve To Wipe Out Mass Ignorance.

7- The Negro Must Stop Charging His Failures Up To His “Color” And To White People’s Attitude.

8- The Negro Must Overcome His Bad Job Habits

9- He Must Improve His Conduct In Public Places

10- The Negro Must Learn How To Operate Business For People--Not For Negro People, Only.

11- The Average So-Called Educated Negro Will Have To Come Down Out Of The Air, He Is Too Inflated Over Nothing.

12- The Negro Must Stop Forgetting His Friends, “Remember”.

ETA: Basically she was a supporter of Booker T. Washington and his ideas about the course of the negro in America. I agree with a lot of what Washington spoke, as did large scores of black people during that time period and even today, though the ideological debates of WEB DuBois and Booker T. Washington can STILL cause arguments to this day with black people. I agree with a lot of what DuBois proposed but I would have been in Washington's corner back then since his message of education, learning of trades (which would lead to more entreprenurial avenues for black Americans), and property ownership were and are IMO more important than integration and university training and I feel that DuBois in a lot of ways was trying to prove to white people that we are good and I just don't think it is necessary to prove my decency to anyone.

I could go on and on about this and probably get people riled up. We had great debates in college about these two distinguished gentlemen and people used to get REALLY mad at me lol!

Oh Gawd.

The "Negro" written at a time when "negroes" were hung for looking at a white women the wrong way, were forced BY LAW to sit in the back of a bus, enter through a back door, and give their seats up for a white person. A time when in some states, "negroes" were denied the right to vote by force and murder.

Sad, that you would post this crap and expect people to bob their heads in agreement.
